6 <br /> 1 WHEREAS, our community can provide opportunities to allow older adults to continue to <br /> 2 flourish by: <br /> 3 m Emphasizing the importance of elders and their leadership by publicly recognizing their <br /> 4 continued achievements <br /> 5 m Presenting opportunities for older Americans to share their wisdom, experience, and <br /> 6 skills <br /> 7 m Recognizing older adults as a valuable assein strengthening our community; <br /> 8 <br /> 9 NOW, THEREFORE, we, the Orange County Board of Commissioners, do hereby proclaim <br /> 10 May 2013 to be Older Americans Month and urge all residents to take time this month to <br /> 11 recognize older adults and the people who serve and support them as powerful and vital <br /> 12 individuals who greatly contribute to the community. <br /> 13 <br /> 14 This the 7th day of May, 2013. <br /> 15 <br /> 16 A motion was made by Commissioner McKee, seconded by Commissioner Rich to <br /> 17 approve a proclamation joining Federal and State governments in designating the month of May <br /> 18 2013 as Older Americans Month and a time to honor older adults for their contributions to <br /> 19 society and to Orange County and authorize the Chair to sign. <br /> 20 <br /> 21 VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br /> 22 <br /> 23 <br /> 24 e. National Travel and Tourism Week Proclamation <br /> 25 The Board considered proclaiming the week of May 4-12, 2013 as National Travel and <br /> 26 Tourism Week in Orange County and authorizing the Chair to sign. <br /> 27 Laurie Paocielli said that the Visitors Bureau was started 20 years ago and the <br /> 28 Commissioners have been at the forefront of fueling an industry that, last year, generated $157 <br /> 29 million in Orange County. She is grateful to be part of the Economic Development <br /> 30 Department. She said that the Arts Commission was put with the Visitors Bureau two years <br /> 31 ago. She said that last year this partnership grew 1700 new jobs. She said that there is <br /> 32 growing interest in farms and there is continued growth. She outlined a few initiatives and <br /> 33 thanked the Board for the proclamation. <br /> 34 <br /> 35 ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br /> 36 NATIONAL TRAVEL AND TOURISM WEEK PROCLAMATION <br /> 37 May 4-12, 2013 <br /> 38 WHEREAS, the travel and tourism industry in Orange County is vital to our economic stability <br /> 39 and growth, and the industry contributes substantially to our culture and quality of life; and <br /> 40 <br /> 41 WHEREAS, travel and tourism to Orange County, brings more than two million annual visitors <br /> 42 to our communities —families and business travelers who frequent our galleries, performing arts <br /> 43 halls, farms and Farmers' Markets; festivals, parades and sporting venues; and <br /> 44 <br /> 45 WHEREAS, overall travel to Orange County provides significant economic benefits to our <br /> 46 tourism industry including hotels, restaurants, attractions, shopping and retail establishments, <br /> 47 transportation operators, and others; and <br /> 48 <br />
