5 <br /> 1 WHEREAS, Coach Bobby Shriner was named North Carolina Mat News Coach of the Year and <br /> 2 the National Wrestling Coaches Association's North Carolina Coach of the Year, <br /> 3 and reached and passed his 500th career dual team victory; and <br /> 4 WHEREAS, through hard work, dedication, teamwork, and commitment, the Panthers have <br /> 5 brought honor upon themselves, Orange High School, the Orange County <br /> 6 Schools District and Orange County; <br /> 7 NOW, THEREFORE, be it proclaimed that the Orange County Board of Commissioners <br /> 8 expresses its sincere appreciation and respect for the Orange High School <br /> 9 Wrestling Team and Coach Bobby Shriner for the Panthers' outstanding <br /> 10 achievement, and their inspiration to youth across North Carolina through their <br /> 11 dedication, teamwork, and athletic prowess. <br /> 12 <br /> 13 This the seventh day of May, 2013. <br /> 14 <br /> 15 A motion was made by Commissioner McKee, seconded by Commissioner Pelissier to <br /> 16 approve a proclamation recognizing Orange High School's Wrestling Team winning the 2013 <br /> 17 North Carolina High School Athletic Association's 3A State Championship and authorize the <br /> 18 Chair to sign. <br /> 19 <br /> 20 VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br /> 21 <br /> 22 d. Older Americans Month Proclamation <br /> 23 The Board considered approving a proclamation joining Federal and State governments <br /> 24 in designating the month of May 2013 as Older Americans Month and a time to honor older <br /> 25 adults for their contributions to society and to Orange County and authorizing the Chair to sign. <br /> 26 Janice Tyler, Director on Aging, gave some background on older Americans. She said <br /> 27 this honor was first established under President Kennedy in 1963. She said that a person turns <br /> 28 65 every 8 seconds in the US. She reviewed some department initiatives and programs. She <br /> 29 said that the purpose of tonight is to honor older Americans. <br /> 30 - <br /> 31 ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> 32 Proclamation <br /> 33 Older Americans Month — May 2013 <br /> 34 <br /> 35 WHEREAS, Orange County is a community that includes over 20,000 persons aged 60 and <br /> 36 older; and <br /> 37 <br /> 38 WHEREAS, Orange County is committed to valuing all individuals and recognizing their <br /> 39 ongoing life achievements; and <br /> 40 <br /> 41 WHEREAS, the older adults in Orange County play an important role by continuing to <br /> 42 contribute experience, knowledge, wisdom, and accomplishments; and <br /> 43 <br /> 44 WHEREAS, our older adults are active community members involved in volunteering, <br /> 45 mentorship, arts and culture, and civic engagement; and <br /> 46 <br /> 47 WHEREAS, recognizing the successes of community elders encourages their ongoing <br /> 48 participation and further accomplishments; and <br /> 49 <br />
