4 <br /> 1 the current total acres in the programs equal 4,353 acres and, if approved, this will increase by <br /> 2 244.47, to a total of 4,597 acres. <br /> 3 Commissioner McKee commended the program participants and asked for a round of <br /> 4 applause. <br /> 5 Commissioner Dorosin asked Gail Hughes to give a little background on this program. <br /> 6 Gail Hughes said the Voluntary Agriculture Program is run through the North Carolina <br /> 7 Department of Agriculture and it is truly voluntary. She said the farmers and landowners are <br /> 8 committing to a desire to continue farming and once admitted to the program, these farmers <br /> 9 sign a conservation agreement. She said that this agreement states that the goal is to continue <br /> 10 farming. She said this is important for state economics. She said that the enhanced program <br /> 11 is more of a commitment as it is a ten year longevity commitment to conservation and <br /> 12 participation in the program. <br /> 13 Commissioner Gordon added her commendation to these farms that have participated <br /> 14 and committed to keep farming growing. <br /> 15 A motion was made by Commissioner Gordon, seconded by Commissioner Pelissier to <br /> 16 approve applications from multiple landowners/farms to certify qualifying Farmland, totaling <br /> 17 342.21 acres (VAD) and 300.67 acres (EVAD) within the Cedar Grove, Cane Creek-Buckhorn, <br /> 18 High Rock/Efland, and Caldwell Voluntary Agricultural Districts, and enroll the lands in the <br /> 19 Orange County Voluntary Agricultural District (VAD) and the Enhanced Voluntary Agriculture <br /> 20 District (EVAD) programs. <br /> 21 <br /> 22 VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br /> 23 <br /> 24 c. Proclamation Recoqnizinq Oranqe Hiqh School's Wrestlinq Championship <br /> 25 The Board considered a proclamation recognizing Orange High School's Wrestling <br /> 26 Team winning the 2013 North Carolina High School Athletic Association's 3A State <br /> 27 Championship and authorizing the Chair to sign. <br /> 28 Chair Jacobs introduced Bobby Shriner, Wrestling Coach at Orange High School and <br /> 29 coach of the year. He also introduced the wrestling team as state champions. <br /> 30 Bobby Shriner said the award is appreciated. This is his 24th year as coach and he said <br /> 31 the team has been blessed by God to have great kids and great coaches. He said Coach <br /> 32 Poteat has been with the program for 16 years and he recognized several of the wrestlers and <br /> 33 their accomplishments. <br /> 34 <br /> 35 Commissioner Rich read the proclamation: <br /> 36 <br /> 37 ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> 38 PROCLAMATION OF RECOGNITION ON <br /> 39 ORANGE HIGH SCHOOL'S WRESTLING TEAM WINNING THE <br /> 40 2013 NCHSAA 3A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP <br /> 41 <br /> 42 <br /> 43 WHEREAS, on March 1 and 2, 2013, Orange High School's Wrestling Team captured the North <br /> 44 Carolina High School Athletic Association's (NCHSAA) 3A State Championship; <br /> 45 and <br /> 46 WHEREAS, under the guidance of Head Coach Bobby Shriner, Orange High School's <br /> 47 Wrestling Team earned its sixth state title in the past eight years; and <br /> 48 WHEREAS, six of the ten participating Orange High wrestlers made it to the semifinals, and <br /> 49 four advanced to the finals; and <br />
