He said resolutions have been made in several other cities <br /> 5 and he hopes the Board of County Commissioners would support cutting military spending. <br /> 6 Margaret Cannel) brought good tidings from the Hillsborough Chamber of Commerce for <br /> 7 the upcoming Hogg Day on May 16th She gave some Hogg Day facts and gave the <br /> 8 Commissioners some Hogg Day souvenirs. She recognized David Hunt as Hogg Day Emeritus <br /> 9 and said the Chamber has also received great support from Solid Waste, EMS, the Health <br /> 10 Department, the Sheriff's Department, and the Visitor's Bureau. She said that there will be food <br /> 11 trucks at the event this year and she hoped to see everyone there. <br /> 12 Don O'Leary said he would like to talk about recyclable trash. He said that it seems that <br /> 13 there is an idea to force everyone in the County to pay for recycling pick up. He said that those <br /> 14 who live in rural communities take their own recycling to the dump. He said that forcing the <br /> 15 entire county to pay a tax that then pays a third party is leaning toward fascism. He said that <br /> 16 only people who want the service and will use the service should have to pay for it. <br /> 17 <br /> 18 b. Petitions by Board Members <br /> 23 Commissioner Dorosin said there was a discussion at the recent BOCC retreat about <br /> 24 the possiblity of having a county fair, and staff was to do preliminary investigation on how to <br /> 25 move this process forward. He said he would like a status report. <br /> 26 Chair Jacobs said the three Commissioners on the retreat planning committee would be <br /> 27 meeting tomorrow morning to review and discuss the proposed items, and one of those items <br /> 28 will be the county fair <br /> 29 Commissioner Pelissier said there is supposed to be a report in the near future for that <br /> 30 same item and she believes it is on the calendar. <br /> 31 <br /> 32 4. Proclamations/ Resolutions/ Special Presentations <br /> 33 <br /> 34 a. Local Historic Landmark Designation for Captain John S. Pope Farm <br /> 35 The Board considered adopting an ordinance to designate the Captain John S. Pope <br /> 36 Farm in Cedar Grove as an Orange County Local Historic Landmark and authorizing the Chair <br /> 37 to sign. <br /> 38 Peter Sandbeck presented, for a final step, the landmark designation ordinance for the <br /> 39 Pope Farm in Cedar Grove. He said this has gone through all of the enabling legislation, both <br /> 40 local and state. He said this is a voluntary process and it is up to the owner. He recognized the <br /> 41 younger John Pope. He said the farm has been well preserved and was listed on the national <br /> 42 register in April. <br /> 43 John Pope said he is honored by this designation and the family has worked hard to <br /> 44 preserve this home property. <br /> 45 Chair Jacobs said they appreciated him for working with Orange County on this process. <br /> 46 A motion was made by Commissioner McKee, seconded by Commissioner Rich to <br /> 47 adopt an ordinance to designate the Captain John S. Pope Farm in Cedar Grove as an Orange <br /> 48 County Local Historic Landmark and authorize the Chair to sign. <br /> 49 <br /> 50 VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br />
