I have also attached current photographs of the house and a vicinity map showing the
location of Bingham School.
Descritrtion and Summary of Changes. The description of Bingham School contained in the Registration
Form, dated July 1977, remains an accurate portrait of the site today. There has been one significant
change to the property since the form was completed. A one-story,brick guest house with a gabled tin
roof was built to serve the current bed-and-breakfast operation,The Inn at Bingham School. This three
room structure was built upon the foundation of an early 20th century milkhouse using bricks recycled
from other areas on the property. The guest house is located to the rear of the main house, next to the
wellhouse and smokehouse. It is not visible when approaching from the north or south along Mebane-
Oaks Road.
Bingham.School is well-maintained by the current owners, who have consented to the HPC's proposal to
pursue landmark designation. The site is under restrictive covenants with PreservationtNC and was the
fast property sold under the foundation's nationally-reknown revolving fund.
I look forward to receiving your comments on this site as a proposed local historic landmark.
