She was also referred to the Horizons program. <br /> • Debbie successfully completed both programs within one year and remains <br /> drug free. She has maintained employment and now has her own apartment <br /> Sharon Hinton reviewed the following: <br /> Youth Enhancement Fund <br /> • The Youth Enhancement Fund was established by the Commissioners in <br /> 2011 to provide low-income youth with opportunities to participate in <br /> recreational activities <br /> (Graphic) <br /> Sharron Hinton said The Youth Enhancement Fund was established by the <br /> Commissioners in 2011 to provide low-income youth with opportunities to participate in <br /> recreational activities. She said the program served 103 children last year, with an <br /> average of 2 activities per child. She said the funding provided in the first year was at <br /> $10,000 and it is at$20,000 for the current year. She said the goal is primarily to <br /> provide children with registration fees, for activities like swimming, hockey lessons, and <br /> gymnastics. This is a successful program and has a lot of interest from the community. <br /> A lot of referrals are received from Parks and Recreation and Hillsborough Youth Athletic <br /> Association (HYAA) and from social workers. <br /> Commissioner Rich asked if there are problems with transportation for these <br /> children. <br /> Sharron Hinton said registration assistance is provided and parents are still <br /> responsible for transportation. <br /> Nancy Coston presented the following: <br /> New Initiatives <br /> • Food and Nutrition Services Employment and Training <br /> • Food Distribution <br /> • Second Family Program Expansion <br /> • Community Response Program <br /> • Emergency Solution Grant <br /> • WIA Youth Grant <br /> • Drug Treatment Court <br />
