Human Services - continued <br />Compass Center for Women and Families $59,500 <br />The former Family Violence Prevention Center of Orange County and The Women's Center <br />merged on July 1, 2012 to become the Compass Center for Women and Families. The agency <br />helps individuals and families become self- sufficient and prevent and end domestic violence. <br />The agency provides direct services, including crisis response and court advocacy, and long- <br />term tools for self- sufficiency, including financial literacy education, career exploration and <br />access to legal information. <br />Dispute Settlement Center <br />$76,000 <br />This agency promotes and brings about peaceful settlement of disputes and prevents the <br />escalation of conflict through mediation, facilitation, conciliation, and training. This agency <br />receives a county match through the Juvenile Crime Prevention Council (JCPC) program; see <br />the Public Safety Non - Departmental Section for more details. <br />Duke HomeCare and Hospice <br />$1,000 <br />Duke HomeCare and Hospice provides medical, psychosocial, spiritual and bereavement care <br />for terminally ill patients and families, regardless of ability to pay. Bereavement services are <br />provided to anyone in the community, regardless of connection to hospice, through individual, <br />family, and group sessions, as well as in the Chapel Hill - Carrboro and Orange County School <br />Systems. <br />El Centro Hispano $20,000 <br />El Centro Hispano is a grassroots community -based organization dedicated to strengthening the <br />Latino community and improving the quality of life of Latino residents in Durham, North Carolina, <br />and the surrounding area. With the opening of the Carrboro office of El Centro Hispano, this <br />mission will be able to include Orange County, Chapel Hill, and Carrboro. <br />El Futuro $27,500 <br />El Futuro addresses the behavioral health needs of North Carolina's Latino community by <br />promoting behavioral health awareness, enhancing existing services, and developing a model <br />clinic. <br />EmPOWERment $15,000 <br />The mission of EmPOWERment is to emPOWER people and communities to control their own <br />destinies through affordable housing, advocacy, community organizing and grassroots <br />economic development. <br />Freedom House Recovery Center $29,000 <br />This agency provides extended care and transitional living in order to promote recovery from the <br />disease of addiction. The goal of the Freedom House is to help alcoholics and drug addicts by <br />providing the tools necessary to lead a life of recovery and to become productive members of <br />society. <br />Habitat for Humanity of Orange County $20,000 <br />Habitat for Humanity of Orange County (HHOC) provides decent affordable housing for families <br />earning less than half of the area median income and who live in substandard housing. HHOC <br />constructs simple, well -built homes that are then sold to qualifying families at affordable prices. <br />41.91 <br />
