Fire Districts - continued <br />Southern Triangle Fire Service District (See Damascus Fire District) <br />• Refer to the section regarding Damascus Fire District for this department's achievements. <br />• North Chatham Volunteer Fire Department serves people in this district as well as those in the <br />Damascus Protection District. <br />White Cross Fire District $321,144 <br />• The tax rate for this district is approved to increase from 7.00 cents to 8.80 cents (an increase of <br />1.80 cents) for FY 2013 -14. The increase is consistent with the March 19, 2013 agenda abstract <br />to the Board of County Commissioners requesting a tax rate increase of 1.80 cents to cover the <br />costs of the a new substation, additional paid staff, purchase of a new Tanker for the new <br />substation, and to cover the increased operational costs. <br />• In FY 2012 -13, the department held 13 State of North Carolina firefighter certification classes, <br />installed dry hydrants at all water points, founds and certified one new hydrant at a new pond, <br />began the process of replacing old 1 '/2" attach line with 1 W attack line on the first out engines, <br />and no firefighter sustained any injuries during the year while operating at emergency scenes or <br />while training. <br />• In FY 2013 -14, the department plans to find and purchase land for a substation, construct the <br />substation, purchase an additional tanker to certify the substation, and add additional part -time <br />staff. <br />• Their Five -Year plan includes the replacement of their 1987 tanker, provide additional rescue <br />services, lower the ISO Grade to a class 6, change over to LDH supply line, complete the <br />transition to 1 W attach line, and purchase a used service company /rescue truck to put into <br />service. <br />M111 <br />
