Health Department - continued <br />• Worked with the Board of Health and key stakeholders to facilitate the adoption and <br />Commissioner approval of the Smoke -Free Public Places Rule. <br />• Received an Eat Smart Move More Community Grant award of $47,500 to revitalize the <br />Fairview Community Garden. <br />• Received a Youth Tobacco Prevention Mini -grant award of $7,000 to support local youth <br />tobacco use prevention programming. <br />• Received $12,000 in Innovation Grant Funds to provide the UNC Nicotine Dependence <br />Program Services for Orange County Employees. <br />• Staff Medical Interpreters registered for the National Certification Written Exam for Medical <br />Interpreters. <br />• The impact of staff vacancies in key positions have been minimized by the temporary re- <br />distribution of tasks, and the use of Public Health Reserve Corps volunteers. <br />Environmental Health Division <br />Major Services <br />• Assuring proper construction and operation of septic systems and wells through permitting, <br />evaluation, and inspection <br />• Providing water sampling services for private water supply wells <br />• Assuring proper food handling and food safety in restaurants and other businesses through <br />permitting, evaluation, and inspection. Evaluation and inspection of childcare centers, rest <br />homes, and schools and other establishments. <br />• Environmental investigation and assuring abatement of childhood lead hazards <br />• Assuring safe public swimming pools through permitting and regular inspections <br />• Assuring proper operating of septic systems and safe water supplies in mobile home parks <br />via an annual inspection <br />FY 2012 -13 Outcomes <br />• Increase efforts in septic system inspections program (WTMP) to accomplish 100% of the <br />required WTMP inspections while catching up on delinquent inspections from the previous <br />two years accounting for a >100% outcome <br />• Increase collection rate for WTMP fees and Mobile Home Park fees from less than 70% to <br />97% with a new process implemented with the County Attorney's office <br />• Achieve 90% inspection rate in the Food & Lodging Program (anticipate completing 1200 of <br />the 1333 inspections required) <br />• Newly constructed wells are sampled within 30 days of the issuance of the Certificate of <br />Completion and results are reported to the owners <br />1iKYA <br />
