Cooperative Extension- continued <br />Horticulture <br />• Enhance the Green industry's level of professionalism and knowledge of proper tree <br />care practices via promotion the use of Certified Arborist and Certified Landscape <br />Technicians. <br />Family and Consumer Sciences: Nutrition and Household Manaaement <br />• Provide family finance education to empower individuals to improve consumer <br />buymanship skills. <br />• Provide energy education programs to assist consumers in reducing energy <br />consumption. <br />Provide estate planning education and planning for future dependency and <br />incompetency training. <br />Provide volunteer leadership opportunities to enhance leadership skills of community <br />members. <br />Family and Consumer Sciences: Food and Nutrition <br />• Continue to provide Eat Smart, Move More, Weigh Less to improve the health, <br />wellbeing, and eating habits of Orange County Citizens. <br />• Continue to provide ServSafe Food Safety Certification course for restaurant workers to <br />enhance the food safety knowledge of Orange County food service employees. <br />• Provide food preservation programming to individuals to increase knowledge and <br />practice of food preservation methods. <br />• Provide nutrition education programs to individuals and families to increase knowledge <br />of basic nutrition principles. <br />4 -H Youth Development <br />• To provide youth with enriching, hands -on experiences in cooperation with the Chapel <br />Hill YMCA and <br />• To provide learning experiences for youth during summer, after - school care, and through <br />community club activities. <br />Budget Highlights <br />The FY 2013 -14 Commissioner Approved Budget includes $5,500 in Capital Outlay for <br />the replacement of a refrigerator ($1,000) and the replacement of a color work group <br />printer ($4,500). <br />All employees within the Cooperative Extension Service are State employees and are <br />budgeted as contracted personnel, as per the Memorandum of Agreement with the <br />State. <br />The $5,000 in revenue includes class fee revenue at the W.C. Breeze Family Farm; the <br />County continues to contribute $10,000 for the programs at the Breeze Farm and is <br />included within the department's Operating budget. <br />M <br />
