<br />North Carolina Cooperative Extension is an educational partnership helping people put
<br />research -based knowledge to work for economic prosperity, environmental stewardship, and an
<br />improved quality of life. We provide non - formal educational programs designed to meet the
<br />needs and issues most important to our customers and their communities.
<br />Major Services
<br />Sustainable Agriculture: Crops and Livestock
<br />• Provide educational programs and technical support to animal and crop agricultural
<br />producers, and assist in the implementation of best management and marketing
<br />practices that will maintain profitability and environmental stewardship.
<br />• Provide training and apprenticeships for existing farmers and potentially new farmers on
<br />fruit, vegetable and flower production, using organic methods in the PLANT@ Breeze
<br />training program to enhance the Local Food system.
<br />• Provide diagnosis of diseases, insect pest and weeds pests problems on farms, homes
<br />and gardens.
<br />Horticulture
<br />Provide technical support and educational seminars for Green Industry, landscape
<br />contractors and landscape maintenace professionals and assist in the adoption of best
<br />management practices in the areas of horticulture, pesticide alternatives and safety.
<br />Deliver researched based horticultural information to the gardening public and support
<br />community gardens via Extension Master Gardener Volunteers.
<br />Provide educational classes, newsletters, newspaper articles, web page development,
<br />individual consultations, email and phone calls for home gardeners to learn proper plant
<br />selection and landscape management techniques that minimize water use and chemical
<br />imputs.
