IR <br /> Resolution Honoring Carol Woods Retirement Center <br /> For Good Corporate Citizenship <br /> WHEREAS, the Orange County Board of County Commissioners in 1994 adopted a <br /> policy entitled"Towards a Sustainable Community,' which established the County's <br /> commitment to sustainability; and <br /> WHEREAS,an important component of sustainability is the ability of workers to <br /> provide a decent standard of living for themselves and their families; and <br /> WHEREAS,the Orange County Board of County Commissioners in 1998 codified this <br /> principal through the adoption of a living wage provision in its Personnel Ordinance; and <br /> WHEREAS,the Orange County Economic Development Commission, as part of its <br /> 1996 Strategic Plan for Economic Development, adopted a Statement of Corporate <br /> Citizenship which encourages businesses to be good corporate citizens through their <br /> employment practices; and <br /> WHEREAS,the Carol Woods Retirement Center has taken the lead among local private <br /> employers by adopting a livable wage policy which provides a minimum of$8.00 an <br /> hour to its full-time and part-time employees; and <br /> WHEREAS,the Orange County Economic Development Commission and the Orange <br /> County Board of County Commissioners wish to honor and commend leadership in <br /> corporate citizenship. <br /> NOW THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED, that we congratulate the Board of Directors <br /> and management of Carol Woods Retirement Center for providing livable wages to all its <br /> 280 fall- and part-time employees and recognize the Center as an outstanding corporate <br /> citizen. <br /> Alice M.
