APPROVED 9/2/2008 <br /> Orange County Board of County Commissioners <br /> WORK SESSION <br /> Tuesday, June 10, 2008 <br /> 7:30 pm <br /> The Orange County Board of Commissioners met for a Work Session to disc;uss the <br /> Comprehensive Plan on Tuesday, June 10, 2008 at 7:30 p.m. at the Link Government Services <br /> Center in Hillsborough, N.C. <br /> COUNTY COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chair Barry Jacobs and Commissioners Moses <br /> Carey, Jr., and Alice M. Gordon, <br /> COUNTY COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: Valerie Foushee and Mike Nelson <br /> COUNTY ATTORNEY PRESENT: Brian Ferrell <br /> COUNTY STAFF PRESENT: County Manager Laura Blackmon, Assistant County <br /> Managers Willie Best and Gwen Harvey, and Clerk to the Board Donna S. Baker(All other staff <br /> members will be identified appropriately below) <br /> PLANNING BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT: Chair Jay Bryan and Members Craufurd <br /> Goodwin, Renee Price, Michelle Kempinski, and Sandra Johnson-Quinn—these were present <br /> but sat in audience. <br /> Chair Jacobs asked the Board to add an item to the agenda considering a letter to the <br /> legislative delegation in reference to House Bill 2725– UNC Operating/Capilal Funds/Airport <br /> Authority. He also asked to add a closed session. <br /> Commissioner Gordon asked if she could add an item from the staff to the agenda about <br /> Progress Energy's two reactors. <br /> All agreed to add these items. <br /> 1. Letter to Legislature <br /> Chair Jacobs said that this is coming up now because the legislature is moving fast and <br /> if the legislature is going to move forward to grant airport authority eminent domain, then the <br /> Board would like the legislature to explain Orange County's position to the General Assembly <br /> that there should be more discussion before this bill is passed. <br /> A motion was made by Commissioner Carey, seconded by Commissioner Gordon to <br /> authorize the Chair to send a letter to our legislative delegation to express Orange County's <br /> concerns regarding House Bill 2725– UNC Operating/Capital Funds/Airport Authority. <br /> Representative Joe Hackney, Speaker of the House <br /> Senator Ellie Kinnaird <br /> Representative Bill Faison <br /> Representative Verla Insko <br /> Dear Speaker Hackney, Senator Kinnaird, Representative Faison, and Representative Insko: <br /> I write on behalf of the Orange County Board of Commissioners to express Orange County's <br /> appreciation for your past and current support and assistance with legislative issues of importance <br />
