We believe that the provision of quality afterschool services and youth <br />programs is an important activity and supports the Town's efforts in providing <br />services to public housing residents. The Town has supported the program <br />since 2003, and it continues to meet its goals by providing quality after school <br />care and academic support for the children enrolled in the program. <br />This program would serve households earning less than 30% of the area <br />median income. <br />Volunteers for Youth, Inc.: $3,000 <br />Volunteers for Youth is requesting funds to continue support of its "Every Girl <br />Counts" program. The goal of this program is to serve twelve middle - schools <br />girls from low- to moderate - income families by improving school <br />performances and teaching valuable life skills to its members. The program <br />will include weekly life -skill workshops and visits to college campuses. <br />The Council has funded this program since 2011. There are currently fifteen <br />middle - school girls enrolled in the program, and the program continues to <br />meets the goals and objectives established by its Performance Agreement. <br />This program would serve households earning less than 80% of the area <br />median income. <br />• Community Alternatives for Supportive Abodes (CASA): $9,000 <br />Community Alternatives for Support Abodes (CASA) is requesting funding for <br />its Supportive Housing Program which pairs tenants who are homeless or at <br />risk of being homeless with a safe, quality, and affordable apartment. In <br />addition, the Program provides comprehensive and supportive property <br />management services. In Chapel Hill, CASA assists 23 special needs <br />households to live independently in their own apartments for the long term. <br />CASA has not requested funding for a public services program in the past, but <br />the Town has supported their work with housing /construction funding from <br />the Community Development funds, most recently in 2010 -2011. <br />This program would serve households earning less than 30% of the area <br />median income. <br />Marian Cheek Jackson Center: $11,000 <br />The Marian Cheek Jackson Center is requesting funds for the "Mobilizing <br />Community Leadership and Broad -Based Partnerships for Fair Housing in <br />Chapel Hill." This program would support the work of the Northside and Pine <br />Knolls Community Plan and implement the Community Plan's action steps <br />related to the six identified community themes. In addition, the program <br />would advance community -led housing initiatives which support proactive <br />neighborhood engagement as identified in the Chapel Hill 2020 <br />comprehensive plan. <br />Y 2013 -2014 Action Plan 12 <br />
