assistance to over 76 people and enrolled eighteen unsheltered, homeless <br />people in services and housing assistance. <br />This program would serve households earning less than 30% of the area <br />median income. <br />• EmPOWERment, Inc: $3,000 <br />The Career Explorers Program provides summer employment for youth ages <br />16 -21 from low- to moderate - income households. The program is designed to <br />provide youth an opportunity to discover valuable life and career skills that <br />will better prepare them for future employment, financial management and <br />assist in their social and emotional development. Program participants work <br />36 hours per week with local businesses. <br />In addition to the $3,000 included in the preliminary Plan, EmPOWERment <br />also intends to use $3,000 from the 2012 -2013 allocation to support this <br />program. The Town has provided funding to the Career Explorers program in <br />the past, most recently in 2010 -2011. <br />This program would serve households earning less than 80% of the area <br />median income. <br />• Chapel Hill Carrboro YMCA After School Outreach Program: $6,500 <br />The After School Outreach Program operates at the Chapel Hill / Carrboro <br />YMCA, serving children living in the Pine Knolls neighborhood and the South <br />Estes Drive and Airport Gardens public housing communities. Funds would be <br />used to serve twelve eligible children. <br />Since 1994, the Town has provided Community Development funds to the <br />YMCA for an afterschool program. The Outreach program has successfully <br />merged with the YMCA's existing afterschool program held at the YMCA <br />facility. In the current year, thirteen children are being served by the <br />program. The YMCA continues to operate a program the meets the goals and <br />objectives established by their Performance Agreement. <br />This program would serve households earning less than 30% of the area <br />median income. <br />• Chapel Hill Training Outreach Project After School Enrichment Program: <br />$3,000 <br />Orange County Family Resource Centers /Chapel Hill Training and Outreach <br />requested $5,000 for continued support of the South Estes Afterschool <br />Program. This program provides provide a safe and supervised environment <br />for children from the South Estes public housing community, the largest <br />public housing community in Chapel Hill. <br />Y 2013 -2014 Action Plan 11 <br />
