Also complete
the Quarterly Expense Report worksheet.
Piedmont Health Services, Inc. has used the requested funding for uncompensated medical care for
Orange County's most vulnerable populations (i.e. uninsured, <200% Federal Poverty Guideline,
medically underserved). As discussed in our 2011-2012 grant proposal, Piedmont Health Services, Inc.'s
FY2011 budgeted cost per medical visit is$175.79. PHS patients living below 200% of poverty pay for
care on a sliding-fee scale tied to the Federal poverty level (for example, a patient living below poverty
pays just$25 for a medical visit, including lab costs). Thus, PHS uses Federal grant dollars AND the
Orange County allocation to cover the uncompensated care costs associated with the care of the low-
income, uninsured population. The$2,500 in allocated funds was used for physician salary support for
uncompensated medical care at the Carrboro Community Health Center(PHS' Orange County site).
CHALLENGES
Describe any challenges your agency has faced during the quarter. What are your plans for
overcoming these obstacles? (If no challenges exist, please write none.)
We continue to have increased demand for services in the current recessionary economy. With the
Supreme Court decision to uphold the Affordable Care Act, we are hopeful that a significant percentage
of our patients may become insured in 2014; however, we know a significant percentage will not be
eligible. We continue to monitor our fiscal health and pursue additional support for our mission, while
pursuing clinical efficiency initiatives that allow us to serve more individuals in a budget-neutral format.
ADDITIONAL AGENCY COMMENTS
Thank you for your support of Piedmont Health Services, Inc. Local support helps health centers to
leverage Federal support to address local health needs.
FY 2011-12 Outside Agency Performance Agreement
Quarterly Report
