15 <br /> South of the 1-85 corridor are suitable for medium <br /> And higher intensity residential, commercial, And <br /> industrial .devel-opment toward the end of the Plan <br /> period.- <br /> • Low intensity rural commercial land uses, occurring <br /> outside of the Urban and Transition Areas, should <br /> be located in proximity to activity nodes to <br /> minimize and prevent strip development. <br /> • The area of the Township which contains the Eno <br /> water supply watershed and Back Crook Water Supply <br /> watershed should be afforded the protection <br /> necessary to minimize adverse development impacts. <br /> In light of these allocation guidelines, information about <br /> land in Cheeks Township was "filtered" through the set of <br /> locational criteria in order to evaluate the suitability of <br /> certain locations to contain various land uses. This <br /> information was then utilized in the classification of land <br /> throughout Cheeks Township. <br /> Distribution of Land Use Plan Categories <br /> Land in Cheeks Township has been classified into the <br /> following Land Use Plan categories according to the public <br /> policies expressed in the Plan, the set of locational <br /> criteria defining the appropriateness of the physical <br /> environmental context for future development and the <br /> Township's projected population change and resulting land <br /> requirements. <br /> RESOURCE PROTECTION AREAS: and classified as such consists <br /> primarily of slo2es greater than 15% and f loodiplains. This <br /> land is considered unsuitable for most development activity. <br /> AGRICULTURAL AREAS: The classification refers to land <br /> aBBsseg under County Pro-visions for use value taxation of <br /> farm and managed forest lands, as well as for active <br /> agricultural lands not enrolled in Lb_e use value taxation <br /> program. These lands are evenly distributed to ILhe apgth and <br /> , south —of- the U.S. 2-0-ZI-85 corridor outside the Men and Twenty <br /> Year Transition Areas. <br /> PUBLIC INTEREST AREAS: Public Interest Areas are Public or <br /> ,q-u_asi-i3ublic landsA such as Duke Forest. County owned laTd-S <br /> in the Seven Mile Creek watershed, and the Moorefields Estate <br /> that are significant from An -educational, hi-storig, <br /> biological. or scientific standpoint. These lands also form <br /> a crucial component of the County's open space system. <br /> AGRICULTURAL RESIDENTIAL: The southern areas of the Township <br /> where agriculture and forestry are important land uses are <br /> 3 .8-13 <br />
