Implementation of teacher career status abolition was changed from immediate <br />implementation to a staggered implementation schedule as follows: <br />May 1, 2013 — June 30, 2018: Current teachers who have not attained career status prior to the 2012 -13 school <br />year may not attain it during the 2012 -13 school year and shall be employed through 1 -year contracts (no <br />grandfathering). <br />July 1, 2013 - June 30, 2014: Superintendents must conduct reviews of teachers employed by the LEA for at <br />least three consecutive years and determine contract lengths of 1, 2, 3, or 4 years to be recommended to those <br />teachers. The superintendent must recommend 25 percent of these teachers for 4 -year contracts, and the local <br />school board must review these recommendations and accept them or select other teachers as part of the 25 <br />percent of the district's teachers to be offered 4 -year contracts. Only teachers deemed effective as demonstrated <br />by proficiency on their evaluation may be given the 4 -year contract, and those same teachers will receive a $500 <br />
