Minutes of the Board of Commissioners I, I <br />Monday, June 6, 1949 <br />The Board met at the usual hour in the Commissioners' Room at the Court- <br />house. Present: Collier Cobb, Jr., Chairman, Ben P. Nilson and H. G. Lams, <br />Commissioners. <br />The minutes of the may meetings were read and approved. <br />Mr. hordie Fitzgerald, County Fire harden, appeared and reported on the <br />work done through his office for eleven months ending June 1, 1949. <br />Air. T. M. Riley presented a road petition asking the State Highway 8: Publ: <br />'storks Commission to construct and maintain a road leading from his house to <br />J. D. 4loods, a distance of approximately eight- tenths of a mile. No action <br />was taken on this measure. <br />Mr. C. Ft. Davis, Superintendent of Chapel Hill Schools appeared and pre- <br />sented Capital Outlay request for the Chapel Hill Schools for the next fiscal <br />year, amounting to 529,447.40. <br />Ltr s. Jean M. Hear, Superintendent of Public Welfare presented her proposes <br />budget for the next fiscal year, which shows a sizeable increase over the <br />1946 -1949 budget. <br />Dr. 0. David Garvin, Superintendent of Public Health presented his pr000s< <br />budget, which also called for increased appropriations. <br />The Board of Education met in joint session with the Commissioners and <br />discussed their needs for the neat fiscal year. <br />All budget proposals, called for increased appropriations over last year, <br />but the Board took no action on these reaues ts, ne nding careful study and fine: <br />adoption at their July meeting. <br />Upon motion, the folloving bills were approved and ordered paid: <br />J. D. Hay - Chickens killed by dogs - f$7.50 <br />Lee Miller - 1 turkey gobbler killed by dogs - 66.25 <br />There being no further business, upon motion, adjourned. <br />J. E.
