3 <br /> 1 report showed that the 450 residents of Carol Woods have contributed more than 35,000 <br /> 2 volunteer hours to their community. <br /> 3 <br /> 4 <br /> 5 b. Resolution Recognizing the Orange County Emergency Services Workgroup <br /> 6 The Board considered approval of a Resolution recognizing the Emergency Services <br /> 7 Workgroup, comprised of a very dynamic and diverse group of residents, elected officials, and <br /> 8 emergency responders, for providing a valuable service to Orange County. <br /> 9 Commissioner McKee introduced this item. He said this group started meeting over a <br /> 10 year ago and, along with Steve Allan, came up with a list of improvements and changes for <br /> 11 Emergency Services. He said there was a broad range of individuals who worked on this group; <br /> 12 representatives from the Board of County Commissioners, fire departments, Emergency <br /> 13 Services, citizens, etc. The recommendations that came out of this group will improve and <br /> 14 speed up the services and will make it easier for the departments, staff and County <br /> 15 management to work together for the benefit of the citizens. <br /> 16 <br /> 17 Commissioner Gordon read the resolution: <br /> 18 <br /> 19 ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> 20 <br /> 21 RESOLUTION OF RECOGNITION AND APPRECIATION FOR THE ORANGE COUNTY <br /> 22 EMERGENCY SERVICES WORK GROUP <br /> 23 <br /> 24 WHEREAS, on January 24, 2012, the Orange County Board of Commissioners created the <br /> 25 Emergency Services Workgroup with a charge to: review VIPER system improvements and <br /> 26 provide input; review the preliminary findings of Solutions for Local Government, Inc. and <br /> 27 provide input; provide the Board with alternative short-term and long-term solutions relating to <br /> 28 Fire Protections Districts, Fire Insurance Districts and Fire Tax Districts; and review the Fire <br /> 29 Departments Strategic Plan once complete and provide input; and <br /> 30 <br /> 31 WHEREAS, the Workgroup was charged with making recommendations for system <br /> 32 improvements for EMS Ambulance response times including but not limited to equipment, <br /> 33 staffing, facilities and/or a strategic plan, to define data elements for meaningful analytical data <br /> 34 as related to ambulance response time and to discuss and review that data and to recommend <br /> 35 improvements for the E911 Communications Center including but not limited to technology, <br /> 36 equipment, staffing, training and/or a strategic plan; and <br /> 37 <br /> 38 WHEREAS, the Emergency Services Workgroup, comprised of a diverse membership <br /> 39 representing residents and the many facets of emergency services in Orange County, gave of <br /> 40 their time and expertise for over 12 months, to this Workgroup and the members of this <br /> 41 Workgroup represented significant experience and expertise in emergency response services: <br /> 42 • Volunteer Fire Chiefs — Orange County Fire Chief's Association —Fire Chief Mike <br /> 43 Tapp and Fire Chief Bryan Baker <br /> 44 • South Orange Rescue Squad — Chief Matthew Mauzy <br /> 45 • Municipal Fire Chief—Town of Chapel Hill Fire Chief Dan Jones <br /> 46 Alternate — Police Chief Chris Blue <br /> 47 • Municipal Police Chief — Town of Carrboro Police Chief or Designee — Captain <br /> 48 Walter Horton <br /> 49 • Municipal Police Chief— Town of Hillsborough Police Chief or Designee — Police <br /> 50 Chief Duane Hampton <br />
