Active Assailant <br />Law Enforcement (LE) is trained in responding to an active shooting incident by entering the <br />building as soon as possible and proceeding to the area of the shooter. <br />Note: LE may not be able to immediately aid people. Help for the injured will be on the way <br />following the initial LE entry. Their main goal is to get to the shooter. <br />Remain calm and be patient. Let the LE do their job. <br />I <br />II <br />15 <br />ADOPT A SURVIVAL MINDSET: Mentally and emotionally prepare to confront a <br />life threatening risk. <br />➢ Figure Out <br />❑ What is going on? <br />❑ What are my paths of escape? <br />❑ Can I get to an exit without <br />confronting the shooter? <br />❑ Where is it happening? <br />❑ Is it better to hide out? <br />❑ What are my options if <br />confronted by the shooter? <br />➢ Call out: Call 911. Provide the following information: <br />❑ Your name and location <br />❑ Number of shooters <br />If you cannot exit the building: <br />❑ Location of the incident <br />❑ Description and identify of shooter(s) <br />Hide out and Keep Out Spread out <br />Take Out <br />• Go to the nearest room or • Spread out in the room. <br />• Only use as a last resort if <br />office. • Keep quiet. Act as if no <br />your life is in danger. <br />• Close, lock and barricade one is in the room. <br />• If you are in a group, make <br />the door. • DO NOT answer the door. <br />a plan to overcome the <br />• Turn the lights out.
