4 <br /> NAME OF BOARD/COMMISSION: Parks & Recreation Council <br /> Report Period: 2012 <br /> Regional Park, Efland Cheeks Community Park (Phase 2), Twin Creeks <br /> (Moniese Nomp) Park, Blackwood Farm Park, Cedar Grove Park, Fairview <br /> Park and the Hollow Rock Access Area. <br /> • The Council is taking an active role in the new Parks and Recreation <br /> Master Plan, which is underway, including advising on public input and <br /> participating in public input sessions. <br /> • Members have assisted in the operation of numerous special events. <br /> • The Chair serves on the Inter-governmental Parks Work Group, and <br /> representatives also serve on the New Hope Creek Corridor Advisory <br /> Council. <br /> • The Council was an Element Lead Advisory Board involved in the 2030 <br /> Comprehensive Plan. <br /> • The Council makes recommendations for the triennial Lands Legacy <br /> Action Plan. <br /> • The Council has worked toward the establishment and incorporation of a <br /> Friends of Parks and Recreation Group. <br /> • The Council hosts the biannual Joint Recreation and Parks Advisory <br /> Council meeting on a rotating basis, most recently in 2011. <br /> • The Council took meetings `on the road' in 2012, visiting park sites and <br /> discussing issues with different staff superintendents and park managers. <br /> List of Specific Tasks, Events, or Functions Performed or Sponsored <br /> Annually. <br /> Biennial joint meetings of town/county parks and recreation councils <br /> Describe this board/commission's activities/accomplishments in carrying <br /> out BOCC goal(s)/priorities, if applicable. <br /> The PRC reviews site plans for major subdivision applications in the county's <br /> jurisdiction. Recommendations are made on potential land dedication for parks <br /> and open space. (Goal 5) <br /> The PRC is the lead advisory board and is taking an active role in the update to <br /> the 1988 Comprehensive Parks and Recreation Master Plan. This effort is <br /> underway, and the PRC helped create the community needs assessment survey <br /> and the public input sessions in its role as "steering committee." (Goal 5) <br /> The Council reviewed plans and advised on Fairview Park and the Hollow Rock <br /> Access Area, as well as providing input on the Mountains to Sea Trail dialogue of <br /> 2012.
