ORANGE COUNTY <br /> COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTER WEEK <br /> AUGUST 20-269 2000 <br /> WHEREAS, There is a significant number of residents and citizens in Orange County <br /> who are currently medically underserved for a number of reasons,the most prominent of <br /> which include geographical isolation, financial and/or language barriers, and an <br /> insufficient number of health providers willing to serve them without regard to ability to <br /> pay; and, <br /> WHEREAS, The Piedmont Health Services, Inc. is a private, nonprofit corporation that <br /> provide high quality comprehensive health care to medically underserved people in <br /> Orange and other counties; and, <br /> WHEREAS, The Carrboro Health Center and Piedmont Women's Health Center serve <br /> many Orange County residents and have made great strides in the Orange County health <br /> care system specifically by maintaining a high standard of accountability, demonstrating <br /> cost effectiveness, empowering our community to develop programs to its specific needs, <br /> enhancing opportunities for children and families, and providing health care services in <br /> accessible low-cost culturally sensitive environments; and, <br /> WHEREAS, The Carrboro Health Center and the Piedmont Women's Health Center have <br /> also made a significant difference in the health care system by improving access to <br /> quality care provided by trained professionals for the underserved by promoting <br /> individual responsibility and health awareness in the community, and offering primary <br /> preventive care of the highest quality to reduce preventable deaths, costly disabilities, and <br /> communicable diseases; and, <br /> WHEREAS, Community Health Centers such as the Carrboro Health Center and the <br /> Piedmont Women's Health Center promote 100% access and zero health disparities to <br /> help achieve primary health care for everyone and end disparities. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, THE ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS do <br /> hereby proclaim the week of August 20 through 26, 2000 as "COMMUNITY HEALTH <br /> CENTER WEEK"and urge our citizens to recognize the important contributions of the <br /> Carrboro Health Center and the Piedmont Women's Health Center to the improvement of <br /> the general quality of life of the residents of Orange County. <br /> 4TIhnilseesolution is adpoe s day of August, 2000. <br /> M M s" <br /> C v.
