He said he is knowledgeable about needs and
priorities of the community and the issues they are facing. It was the focus of his campaign
and he believes it contributed to his election. He said he has good relationships with residents
and this would be invaluable to both the Board of County Commissioners and the task force.
Commissioner McKee, Commissioner Gordon and Commissioner Pelissier all said they
are not interested in serving on the task force.
Commissioner Rich would like to continue on the task force and noted that she has been
on it for six months. She said she has been involved since they first started pricing water and
sewer out there. She thinks they need continuity and she has read all of the reports since
1997. She said that at the end of every meeting, there are no conclusions, just reports. She
believes they need to move forward and it is time not to go backwards and to engage the
managers to move forward as meetings take place. She said her goal would be to represent
Orange County now and not Chapel Hill.
A motion was made by Commissioner Pelissier to nominate past commissioner, Pam
Hemminger, to continue on this task force as an Orange County representative. She stated
that Mrs. Hemminger kept people on task and had garnished a lot of respect. She knows the
Orange County budget process and the county perspective. She noted that the task force
makes recommendations only and does not vote as elected officials.
Commissioner McKee seconded that motion.
