The Board considered applications from multiple landowners/farms to certify qualifying <br /> farmland within the Cedar Grove, Buckhorn, and Caldwell voluntary agricultural district, and <br /> enroll the lands in the Orange County Voluntary Agricultural District (VAD) program and <br /> authorize the Chair to sign the associated documents. <br /> Gail Hughes with the Soil and Water Conservation Office from the Department of <br /> Environment, Agriculture, Parks and Recreation, made a PowerPoint presentation. <br /> Voluntary Agricultural District (VAD) and <br /> Enhanced Voluntary Agricultural District (EVAD) Program <br /> Orange County VAD/EVAD Program <br /> Benefits of Agricultural Districts <br /> ➢ Provides a voluntary way to support the conservation of rural communities; <br /> ➢ Makes public more aware of the local agricultural community; <br /> ➢ Provides fresh food, fiber, and other agricultural products to Orange County residents <br /> and visitors; <br /> ➢ Notice of agricultural district is recorded at County Land Records office; therefore, the <br /> landowner has increased protection from nuisance lawsuits. <br /> ➢ Provides increase in wildlife habitat, supports clean air and water quality. <br /> The Rogers' Family Farms <br /> Cedar Grove Voluntary Agricultural District - Carr Community <br /> William "Larry" and Yvonne Rogers: <br /> ➢ Six parcels of land totaling 386.56 acres; <br /> ➢ Includes poultry and beef cattle operation; <br /> ➢ Cropland includes: soybeans, wheat and grains, hay/grassland; <br /> ➢ Includes pasture and managed forestry/woodland <br /> William "Billy" and Sonya Rogers: <br /> ➢ One parcel of land totaling 18.67 acres <br /> ➢ Cropland: soybeans and wheat/grain crops <br /> Linwood "L.J." and Nancy Rogers: <br /> ➢ Four parcels of land totaling 376.46 acres <br /> ➢ Cropland includes: soybeans, tobacco, wheat/grains, hay/grassland <br /> ➢ Includes managed forestry/woodland <br /> Rogers Farm total acres in VAD = 781.69 acres <br /> Shambley Dairy Farm <br /> Morris and Shirley Shambley <br /> ➢ Buckhorn Voluntary Agricultural District <br /> ➢ Three parcels of land totaling 260.58 acres <br /> ➢ Awarded State Soil and Water Conservation Farm Family of the Year in 1998; <br /> ➢ Former dairy farm, currently raises beef cattle; <br /> ➢ Cropland includes: soybeans, corn, wheat/grain crops, hay/grassland; <br />
