The Board considered applications from multiple landowners/farms to certify qualifying farmland within the Cedar Grove, Buckhorn, and Caldwell voluntary agricultural district, and enroll the lands in the Orange County Voluntary Agricultural District (VAD) program and authorize the Chair to sign the associated documents. Gail Hughes with the Soil and Water Conservation Office from the Department of Environment, Agriculture, Parks and Recreation, made a PowerPoint presentation. Voluntary Agricultural District (VAD) and Enhanced Voluntary Agricultural District (EVAD) Program Orange County VAD/EVAD Program Benefits of Agricultural Districts ➢ Provides a voluntary way to support the conservation of rural communities; ➢ Makes public more aware of the local agricultural community; ➢ Provides fresh food, fiber, and other agricultural products to Orange County residents and visitors; ➢ Notice of agricultural district is recorded at County Land Records office; therefore, the landowner has increased protection from nuisance lawsuits. ➢ Provides increase in wildlife habitat, supports clean air and water quality. The Rogers' Family Farms Cedar Grove Voluntary Agricultural District - Carr Community William "Larry" and Yvonne Rogers: ➢ Six parcels of land totaling 386.56 acres; ➢ Includes poultry and beef cattle operation; ➢ Cropland includes: soybeans, wheat and grains, hay/grassland; ➢ Includes pasture and managed forestry/woodland William "Billy" and Sonya Rogers: ➢ One parcel of land totaling 18.67 acres ➢ Cropland: soybeans and wheat/grain crops Linwood "L.J." and Nancy Rogers: ➢ Four parcels of land totaling 376.46 acres ➢ Cropland includes: soybeans, tobacco, wheat/grains, hay/grassland ➢ Includes managed forestry/woodland Rogers Farm total acres in VAD = 781.69 acres Shambley Dairy Farm Morris and Shirley Shambley ➢ Buckhorn Voluntary Agricultural District ➢ Three parcels of land totaling 260.58 acres ➢ Awarded State Soil and Water Conservation Farm Family of the Year in 1998; ➢ Former dairy farm, currently raises beef cattle; ➢ Cropland includes: soybeans, corn, wheat/grain crops, hay/grassland;
