Transportation Improvements <br />Most properties in the study area are accessed from Purefoy Drive off Rogers Road. <br />Rogers Road is a two lane facility currently classified as a collector street by the <br />North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT). The traffic volume in 2007 <br />was approximately 5,000 vehicles per day, a rise from 3,000 vehicles per day in <br />1990. (In general traffic on Rogers Road has increased by 4 to 6 percent per year.) <br />Purefoy Drive as currently constructed is sufficient to accommodate 500 - 1,500 <br />vehicle trips per day. <br />The Task Force recommendations propose that new development in the study area <br />may require expansion or upgrade of existing streets. The Task Force identified the <br />need for additional access to the neighborhood and more internal road connec- <br />tions (See Figure 6) In particular they identified the need to have a north -south <br />roadway connection through the study area to connect to Eubanks Road. <br />Orange County owns approximately 70 percent of the property with frontage on <br />Eubanks Road including the landfill site, the solid waste operations center and the <br />animal shelter. The Task Force considered options to provide an east to west road <br />connection to the neighborhood through the Greene Tract. <br />Transit Service <br />Currently, the Rogers Road area is served by Chapel Hill Transit paratransit and <br />Share -a -Ride services. Chapel Hill Transit has received funding to revise existing <br />transit service in the Rogers Road area. It is anticipated that this expansion of tran- <br />sit service will be implemented by the end of the second quarter of 2009. Figure 5 <br />shows one option for extending transit service along Rogers Road.
