On December 31, 2009, John Smith retired as <br />Tax Assessor after serving the County for 24 years. His last reappointment was for a four -year <br />term on July 1, 2009 to expire on June 30, 2013. Jo Roberson was appointed Tax Collector for <br />a four -year term beginning July 1, 2009 to expire June 30, 2013. When Mr. Smith retired <br />December 31, 2009, the Revenue and Tax Assessor departments were consolidated to form the <br />Tax Administration Department. Ms. Roberson's position (Revenue Director) was reclassified <br />as Tax Administrator, and the Board of County Commissioners appointed her as Tax <br />Administrator for a term to expire June 30, 2011. Later in 2010, Ms. Roberson announced plans <br />to retire in the spring of 2011 after serving the County since January 2000. <br />In October 2010, the Board of County Commissioners accepted the County Manager's <br />recommendation to allow the Orange County Human Resources Department to conduct the <br />recruitment and selection process for the next Tax Administrator. The recruitment occurred over <br />a six -week period and was advertised aggressively to secure a qualified selection of candidates. <br />An Executive Summary of the process was provided to the Board on February 8, 2011. <br />Jenkins Crayton was selected as Tax Administrator in March 2011 to fulfill Ms. Roberson's <br />unexpired term through June 30, 2011. Following the unexpired term, Mr. Crayton was <br />reappointed as Tax Administrator to a two -year term to expire June 30, 2013. <br />
