13 <br /> 1 WHEREAS, the Orange County Board of Commissioners has adopted the Orange County Bus <br /> 2 and Rail Investment Plan; and <br /> 3 WHEREAS, the Orange County Bus and Rail Investment Plan provides for the levy and <br /> 4 disbursement of the one half cent (1/2 ¢) public transportation tax authorized by North Carolina <br /> 5 General Statute Chapter 105, Article 43; and <br /> 6 WHEREAS, in June 2012 the Orange County Board of Commissioners entered into an <br /> 7 agreement with the Research Triangle Regional Public Transportation Authority providing that <br /> 8 in the event the tax referendum was successful the Research Triangle Regional Public <br /> 9 Transportation Authority would not levy the one half cent ('A ¢) public transportation tax until <br /> 10 requested to do so by a resolution of the Orange County Board of Commissioners; and <br /> 11 WHEREAS, on November 6, 2012 the voters of Orange County approved via referendum the <br /> 12 levy of the one half cent ('A ¢) transportation tax. <br /> 13 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Orange County Board of Commissioners <br /> 14 hereby authorizes the Research Triangle Regional Public Transportation Authority to levy the <br /> 15 one half cent ('A ¢) public transportation tax approved by the voters of Orange County. <br /> 16 This the 11th day of December 2012. <br /> 17 <br /> 18 <br /> 19 VOTE: Ayes, 5; No, 1 (Commissioner McKee) <br /> 20 <br /> 21 <br /> 22 A motion was made by Commissioner Dorosin, seconded by Commissioner Rich to <br /> 23 approve the resolution levying the $7 new vehicle registration tax. <br /> 24 <br /> 25 Res. 2012-113 <br /> 26 <br /> 27 <br /> 28 ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS RESOLUTION LEVYING A SEVEN <br /> 29 DOLLAR ($7.00) VEHICLE REGISTRATION TAX ON MOTOR VEHICLES REGISTERED IN <br /> 30 ORANGE COUNTY <br /> 31 <br /> 32 WHEREAS, the Orange County Board of Commissioners has adopted the Orange County Bus <br /> 33 and Rail Investment Plan; and <br /> 34 WHEREAS, the Orange County Bus and Rail Investment Plan provides for the levy and <br /> 35 disbursement of the seven dollar ($7.00) motor vehicle registration tax authorized by North <br /> 36 Carolina General Statute §105-570; and <br /> 37 WHEREAS, Orange County and one or more municipal corporations in Orange County operate <br /> 38 public transportation systems. <br /> 39 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Orange County Board of Commissioners <br /> 40 hereby levies the seven dollar ($7.00) motor vehicle registration tax as authorized by North <br /> 41 Carolina General Statute §105-570 with said motor vehicle registration tax being effective July <br /> 42 1, 2013. <br />
