ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> RESOLUTION OF COMMENDATION <br /> FOR <br /> COMMISSIONER VALERIE P. FOUSHEE <br /> WHEREAS, the residents of Orange County elected Valerie P. Foushee to the Board of <br /> County Commissioners in 2004 and re-elected her again in 2008; and <br /> WHEREAS, her Board colleagues expressed recognition of, and appreciation for, <br /> Commissioner Foushee's service and leadership by electing her as Vice Chair <br /> of the Board of Commissioners for 2008 and Chair of the Board of <br /> Commissioners for 2009 and 2010; and <br /> WHEREAS, Valerie P. Foushee has served the residents of Orange County for many years, <br /> not only as a County Commissioner but also as an active member of her <br /> community; and <br /> WHEREAS, in 2004, Commissioner Foushee became the first female African American to <br /> serve on the Orange County Board of Commissioners; and <br /> WHEREAS, during her tenure as an Orange County Commissioner, Valerie P. Foushee has <br /> shared her talent for leadership and public service through her work on <br /> numerous committees, organizations, boards, and institutes of higher learning <br /> including the Durham Technical Community College Board of Trustees; <br /> President, NC Association of Black County Officials; UNC Board of Visitors; NC <br /> Association of County Commissioners (NCACC) Board of Directors; Chair of the <br /> NCACC Healthy Living Task Force; NAACP (Chapel Hill-Carrboro Branch;) <br /> Orange County Social Services Board of Directors; Chapel Hill/Orange County <br /> Visitors Bureau Board of Directors; and the Boys and Girls Club of Eastern <br /> Piedmont Board of Directors, and <br /> WHEREAS, Commissioner Foushee has fought for the rights of residents of Orange County, <br /> her genuine concern for others manifests through her tireless advocacy to <br /> improve the quality of life for the people of Orange County; and <br /> WHEREAS, there comes a time when a person decides to pass the torch and adjust <br /> priorities accordingly; <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Orange County Board of Commissioners <br /> officially commends Valerie P. Foushee for her years of distinguished service, <br /> salutes her voluntary decision to pursue higher public office, looks forward to <br /> her continued contributions to the community, and wishes her and her family the <br /> very best in their future endeavors. <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be presented to Ms. Valerie Foushee, with a <br /> copy sent to the media, and that the Resolution be spread upon the minutes of <br /> this meeting. <br />
