He made a PowerPoint presentation. <br /> 4 <br /> 5 <br /> 6 Policies for Utility and Fuel Conservation <br /> 7 <br /> 8 Purpose <br /> 9 iiiiiiiiiiiii Review and consider modifications to existing Conservation Policies adopted by Board <br /> 10 December 5, 2005: <br /> 11 Energy Conservation Policy <br /> 12 Water Conservation Policy <br /> 13 Vehicle Fuel Conservation Policy <br /> 14 <br /> 15 Background <br /> 16 As part of the larger "Environmental Responsibility County Government" goal <br /> 17 adopted by the Board at its December 5, 2005 meeting, additional policies were <br /> 18 adopted <br /> 19 These were aimed at conserving energy, water and fuel <br /> 20 Numerous changes in the structure of Orange County government have <br /> 21 occurred since these policies were adopted <br /> 22 Asset Management Services (AMS) is the County department with lead <br /> 23 responsibility for utility and fuel management <br /> 24 AMS manages most County facilities and vehicles, including utilities and fuel <br /> 25 <br /> 26 Focus for Proposed Policy Modifications <br /> 27 iiiiiiiiiiiii Key Proposed Modifications include: <br /> 28 Combining energy and water policies into a single utility policy <br /> 29 Replacement of "Energy Conservation Task Group" with focused, quicker <br /> 30 responding "Conservation Management Team" <br /> 31 Conservation Team includes departments with primary responsibilities for <br /> 32 conservation <br /> 33 iiiiiiiiiiiii Asset Management Services <br /> 34 • Department of Environment, Agriculture, Parks and Recreation <br /> 35 <br /> 36 Unchanged in Modified Policies <br /> 37 <br /> 38 iiiiiiiiiiiii Responsibility for employees to take ownership of conservation activities <br /> 39 iiiiiiiiiiiii Responsibility for department heads to promote conservation <br /> 40 iiiiiiiiiiiii Focus on "action items" in the form of annual plan <br /> 41 iiiiiiiiiiiii Focus on items with greatest potential for reduction (within available budgets) <br /> 42 iiiiiiiiiiiii Questions & Comments <br /> 43 <br /> 44 <br /> 45 Commissioner Jacobs said that he does not see anything about pursuing alternative <br /> 46 energy sources or seeking grants to acquire alternative energy sources. He said that Orange <br /> 47 County has lighting standards and these should be applicable to the County buildings, such as <br /> 48 using energy efficient light bulbs, etc. <br />
