■.
P.
Spay and Neuter and Microchip Requirements for Stray Recoveries;
Select Regulatory Review
Working Document
August 13, 2012
Recently, orange County Animal Services Director, Bob Marotto, obtained information from other animal welfare professionals regarding
sterilization and micro- chipping ordinances in their own or other jurisdictions throughout the United States, as they relate to the recovery of
animals. Answers are summarized on the following two tables, one for sterilization and one for microchipping requirements:
Original Question: I was wondering whether any of you are familiar with any communities that have ordinances that require the spaying or
neutering of dogs and cats that have been impounded more thanone time. or if you even happen to have a favorite model for this kind of
regulation. It may be an altogether different legislative item, but I am also interested in exploring the requirement for a microchip for dogs and
cats that have been impounded as a requirement of recovery. It doesn't address reproduction per se but it does help with recovery and ensure
the kind of identification needed to ensure accountability as well.
Sterilization Re uirements u on reclaim throughout US
Location
Jurisdiction
Local or
Level of requirement
Alternative
Recovery
notes
state
options
fee offset
by s/n
Arizona
All of state
State
Required s/n for all adoption or recovery
None?
Needs
more
research
Northglenn, Co
City of
Local
I ?
N
W
