<br />ORANGE COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br />Meeting Date:February 5, 2013 <br />Action Agenda <br />Item No.5-e <br />SUBJECT: <br />Notice of PublicHearing on Orange County’s 2013Legislative Agenda <br />DEPARTMENT:PUBLIC HEARING: (Y/N)No <br />County Commissioners <br />ATTACHMENT(S):INFORMATION CONTACT: <br /> Commissioner Earl McKee, 245-2130 <br />Commissioner Mark Dorosin, 245-2130 <br />PURPOSE: <br />To provide notice of the Board of County Commissioners’ plans to holda public <br />hearing on February 19, 2013on potential items for inclusion in Orange County’s legislative <br />agenda package for the 2013North Carolina General Assembly Session. <br />BACKGROUND: <br />Prior to adoption of its legislative agenda each year, theBoard of County <br />Commissioners conducts a public hearing to receive input from the public. This agenda item <br />provides the opportunity for the Board of Commissioners to schedule a public hearing during its <br />regular meeting on Tuesday, February 19, 2013at 7:00 p.m. attheSouthern Human Services <br />Center at 2501 Homestead Roadin Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The purpose of the public <br />hearing will be to receive public comments on potential items for inclusion in Orange County’s <br />legislative agenda package for the 2013North Carolina General Assembly Session. <br />The County’s Legislative Issues Work Group, consisting of Commissioner Earl McKee, <br />Commissioner Mark Dorosin,and County staff, isreviewing items for possible inclusion in a <br />recommended legislative package. Information on the proposed items will be provided to the <br />BOCC andthe publicprior to the February 19meeting. <br />It should also be noted that the Clerk to the Board has scheduled a joint legislative breakfast for <br />the BOCC and Orange County’s legislative delegation for March 11, 2013. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: <br />Any funds necessary to provide the public notice are included in the <br />Clerk to the Board’s budget for the current year. <br />RECOMMENDATION(S): <br />TheManager recommends the Board direct the Clerk to the Board <br />andthe County Manager to publish a notice of the Board’s intent to hold a public hearing during <br />its regular meeting on February 19, 2013at 7:00 p.m. at the Southern Human Services Center <br />at 2501 Homestead Road in Chapel Hill, North Carolina to receive publiccomments on potential <br />items for inclusion in Orange County’s legislative agenda package for the 2013North Carolina <br />General Assembly Session. <br />
