3 <br />2013 UPDATE from Social Services <br />Provide basic necessities to eligible families through Food and <br />Nutrition Services, Work First cash assistance, Medicaid and <br />Health Choice medical coverage, energy payments and emergency <br />assistance. <br />Assist low income working families to gain and maintain <br />employment and to increase wages through employment and <br />training services (Work First, Skills Development Center) and <br />through supportive services (e.g. child care subsidy) <br />Protect vulnerable children and adults from abuse and neglect and <br />assist them to live safely in family settings when possible. Provide <br />access to other services such as foster care, group care or in -home <br />aide services <br />Provide preventive services for high -risk families and individuals <br />(homelessness prevention, school social work, adolescent <br />parenting) <br />Partner with other County and non - profit agencies to address <br />needs of families (social workers at senior centers, staff at hospital, <br />drug court partnership) <br />Priority 4: Review services to identify and protect `safety net' programs <br />and services. <br />2013 UPDATE from Health Department <br />• Dental Clinic: Centrally located with eight operatory and <br />appointments available five days per week. <br />• Medical Clinic: Two locations (Chapel Hill, Hillsborough) <br />with evening hours offered once each week at each <br />location. <br />• Family Home Visiting Services: Care management and <br />counseling services for at risk, eligible women and children <br />to ensure improved health outcomes. <br />• Provides access to WIC services. <br />• Fees for Services: some are free, low costs, offered on a <br />sliding fee scale based on income, or billed to third -party <br />insurance. <br />• FY 2011 -12 Service Statistics: <br />3,059 people were seen in health clinic. <br />0 665 had private insurance (22 %) <br />0 1,078 had Medicaid (35 %) <br />0 1,681 were self -pay (55 %) *Under or uninsured <br />1,547 people were seen in the dental clinic <br />
