38 <br />Adult Care Home Community Advisory <br />NAME OF BOARD/COMMISSION: <br />Committee <br /> <br />January 2012 December 2012 <br />Report Period: <br /> Our committee continues to be concerned with care of residents <br />· <br />dependent adult care facilities. We recognize that quality care <br />on quality caregivers and low turnover. We will continue to supp <br />line workers in these facilities by advocating for fair wages an <br />treatment. <br /> <br /> Facility management problems, vacancies and turnover in key adm <br />· <br />positions at Orange County's long term care facilities are of mu <br />We will continue to provide consultation to recently appointed a <br /> <br /> Continued decreases in resident volume at many facilities and t <br />· <br />other facilities underscores the impact of our weak economy. Lim <br />keep many elders at home, thus creating potential for greater fa <br />and fiscal difficulties at facilities with low census. <br /> <br /> The continued growth of the Family Care Home industry will requ <br />· <br />from the committee to ensure that these homes meet substantially <br />standards by which we judge larger corporate owned Adult Care Ho <br /> <br />: <br />Additional Comments and Observations <br /> <br /> Orange County Facility Strengths: <br />· <br /> Orange Countys Adult Care Homes and Family Care Homes continue <br />· <br />serve a wide variety of adults in various types of facilities. <br /> All facilities visited by the committee are aware of the commit <br />· <br />and are open to our concerns and questions. <br /> Most facilities see our committee as an asset that can be broug <br />· <br />overcome challenges which may arise in the facility. <br /> Attentiveness to the residents individual needs and wants, par <br />· <br />smaller, adult care homes and in the family care homes. <br /> Additional family care home options continue to become availabl <br />· <br /> <br /> <br /> Orange County Facility Weaknesses: <br />· <br /> Mixed populations of mentally ill, younger residents with older <br />· <br /> Apparent lack of preparation of staff in handling mental health <br />· <br /> Maintenance and repairs to the physical plant of older faciliti <br />· <br /> High rate of staff turnover in many of the facilities <br />· <br /> Inability to personalize services to the needs and desires of t <br />· <br />each facility <br /> Activities programs are inadequate and uninspired in general <br />· <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
