Article 10: Definitions 26 <br />Section 10.1: Definitions <br />clood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) <br />An official, adopted Orange County map, issued by FEMA, on which both the Special Flood Hazard Areas <br />and the risk premium zones applicable to the county are delineated. These areas are incorporated within <br />the official Zoning Atlas for Orange County as the Special Flood Hazard Area Overlay District. <br />clood Insurance Study (FIS) <br />An examination, evaluation, and determination of flood hazard, corresponding water surface elevations (if <br />appropriate), flood insurance risk zones, and other flood data in Orange County issued by FEMA. This term <br />describes federal, state or local regulations in any combination thereof, which provide standards for <br />preventing and reducing flood loss and damage. <br />Flood Proofing <br />Any combination of structural and nonstructural additions, changes, or adjustments to structures, which <br />reduce or eliminate risk of flood damage to real estate or improved real property, water and sanitation <br />facilities, or structures with their contents. <br />Floodwa, <br />The channel of a river or other watercourse and the adjacent land areas that must be reserved in order to <br />discharge the base flood without cumulatively increasing the water surface elevation more than one foot. <br />This term may also be referred to as "regulatory floodway." <br />Mood Zone <br />" Staff is eliminating multiple definitions of tenns and providing a reference point to direct the reader where the <br />term can be found within the UDO. <br />Orange County, North Carolina — Unified Development Ordinance Page 10 -11 <br />
