Thursday, Jan 10: Mike Wiley, Tired Souls (8th graders): $800 Attendance population <br /> approximately 200 students. <br /> Monday, Feb 25: Bright Star Theatre, Heroes of the Underground Railroad (6th <br /> graders): $575. Attendance population approximately 200 students. <br /> Wed, March 13: Jabali African Acrobats (6th, 7th, 8th graders): $850. Entire student <br /> body of approximately 650 students. <br /> All performances will take place in the auditorium at the school during the regular school <br /> day, to best utilize the students'time and the committee's budget. <br /> Mike Wiley will perform his act of Tired Souls in January in one performance for the 8th <br /> grade, with an attendance population of 210 students. The attendees represent the <br /> cultural diversity of the school with an approximate 55% to 45 % female to male ratio for <br /> the class. This production takes place in Alabama in 1955, the day Rosa Parks refused <br /> to give up her bus seat to white passengers. This show artistically educates the <br /> audience on how this event was a significant catalyst for the human rights movement <br /> that took place in the South in the 1960's. <br /> A gifted playwright and actor, Mike Wiley has been performing for audiences for over 12 <br /> years. The goal of his works is to expand cultural awareness through dynamic <br /> portrayals of pivotal events in the American history. <br /> Mike Wiley through his performances provides an opportunity to present the <br /> students with a dramatic performance about the history of the civil rights era that <br /> we hope will be particularly engaging to the 8th grade student audience. They are on a national tour presenting Heroes of the Underground <br /> Railroad, which has received acclaim from educators and students alike. Heroes of <br /> the Underground Railroad is an inspiring exploration of the lives and work of notable <br /> Abolitionists and slaves from America's Underground Railroad. The show provides an <br /> artistic historical display of the time period while recreating the lives and work of several <br /> heroes including Harriet Tubman, Levi Coffin, and Frederick Douglass. This is a 45 <br /> minute show depicting selflessness and bravery during this period of American history. <br /> The audience for this performance will be the 6th grade student body of 215 students. <br /> Our hope is that this show will artistically enlighten the audience with stories of brave <br /> I - I <br />
