<br /> CBCCS offers o host of college prep and career tech classes and academies. Some of our district achievements are
<br /> that vvo consistently rank first iu the state in SAT scores,have nearly A296of our graduating students enroll ioatwo
<br /> nr four year institutions,and have the lowest dropout rate iu North Carolina.
<br /> Chapel Hill High School is a 3-A public secondary school that has an enrollment of 1389 students. Wu host a
<br /> diverse student body that im comprised of approximately the following groups: 53.4%White, \O.9Y6Black, 11�5Y6
<br /> Asian, l3.2Y6 Latino,and lO3%multiracial. ltis worth noting that`*o have u burgeoning Burmese/Karen refugee
<br /> population and ou ever-expanding English uo u Second Language(BSL)program, C8BB is unique iu that itoffers
<br /> two academic academies within the school-the Information Technology Academy and the Visual and Performing
<br /> Arts Academy.

<br /> is a school that strives for national recognition like its two historic neighboring high schools,Chapel Hill High and
<br /> East Chapel Hill High,and prides itself in its rigor,diversity,and LEED-certified,state-of-the-art building.It
<br /> continues to grow and add to both its facility and course offerings;given its geography and connection to the highly
<br /> regarded universities, the school plans to become even more effective in its community outreach and equity work.
<br /> Phoenix Academy is the designated alternative high school for the district and serves on average between 35-45 at-
<br /> risk students between ninth and twelfth grades. Phoenix Academy's primary focus is to help students to learn,to
<br /> succeed,and to lead. The subjects that are currently taught are CTE,Social Studies,ELA, Math,Science,and PE.
<br /> The current enrollment is 28 students and will continue to grow as more students leave their regularly assigned
<br /> school. 90%of students receive free and reduced lunch.32%of students have Individualized Academic Plans
<br /> QEPs)for learning disabilities. 100%of students have Personalized Education Plans(PEPs),which are used to
<br /> increase achievement. The school racial demographics are approximately 75%black,20%Latino/Hispanic,and 5%
<br /> ARTS PROGRAMS AT OUR SCHOOLS:
<br /> Chapel Hill High School
<br /> CHHS has a high functioning Cultural Arts Department that offers introductory,intermediate,and advanced levels
<br /> of a wide range of classes, including Ceramics,Graphic Design,Drawing and Painting,AP Art History,Acting,
<br /> Technical Theater,Dance,Chorus,Orchestra,Band,Jazz,Musical Theory,and more. Many of our students
<br /> compete and are recognized at national levels for a wide variety of awards. Because of our strong history in the arts,
<br /> CHHS started the Visual and Performing Arts Academy in 2007. As part of the academy,students can take core
<br /> English, Science, History,and other classes with an Arts Focus. In these courses,teachers incorporate artistic
<br /> pedagogies and projects into the curriculum on a regular basis,and many classes engage local artists to supplement
<br /> the course of study.
<br /> The Arts Academy also hosts-in partnership with the Social Justice Academy of East Chapel Hill High and the
<br /> Academy of International Studies at Carrboro High-the Identity Summit every spring. This day long conference-
<br /> style event brings approximately 300 students together from all 3 high schools. Student leaders create and facilitate
<br /> 11classes"on issues related to identity that their peers sign up to attend. Many arts-based instruction sessions,
<br /> including work with the Sacrificial Poets,is oftentimes a highlight of this transformative day. This year,students
<br /> &om the Sacrificial Poets workshops will present and perform various poems from their semester experiences.
