t <br /> • Direct connection of the cultural plan and cultural district to the economic development <br /> of the town <br /> • An iterative community input and reflection process employing facilitated community <br /> meetings, social media, surveys of audience members and businesses, existing town <br /> committees and commissions, and focus groups. <br /> • Intentional testing of assumptions in arts engagement in Carrboro before drafting final <br /> cultural plan <br /> Arts Carrboro 2020 could address: <br /> • Sustaining and growing the creative economy and arts-based businesses of the town <br /> • Stimulating more cultural businesses and jobs <br /> • Providing access to the arts and arts education for all citizens of Carrboro <br /> • Making it possible for artists to afford to live and work in Carrboro <br /> • Developing the role and administration of the arts within town government, including a <br /> local government arts development initiative <br /> • Creating a loan pool for arts-based businesses in Carrboro <br /> • Integrating the arts with local economic development <br /> • Fostering coordination and active collaboration among for profit,non-profit, and <br /> government support arts entities in Carrboro <br /> • Expanding opportunities for arts in education <br /> • Stimulating sustained community-based cultural planning <br /> • Promoting effective communication and collaboration among arts groups and events and <br /> with Town government <br /> • Enhancing collaboration with Chapel Hill, UNC, Orange County, and relevant State <br /> agencies. <br /> • Producing multimedia promotional materials for arts marketing of Carrboro <br /> • Stimulating arts engagement <br /> • Creative asset mapping <br /> • Fostering public art and gateway planning for Carrboro, and <br /> • Developing of the Carrboro Cultural and Entertainment District <br /> The Town, The ArtsCenter, and its partners propose to engage Carrboro based creative economy <br /> planners and researchers Regional Technology Strategies (RTS) and arts-focused Chapel Hill <br /> design firm Szostak Design(Durham Performing Arts Center, Utah Performing Arts Center, <br /> Walltown Recreation Center). The firms, and others as needed, will help the Town and The <br /> ArtsCenter to conduct community based visioning process leading to master planning activities <br /> that enhance and develop collaborations among cultural organizations, businesses, individual artists, <br /> schools, and facilities in and surrounding the District. Their work will advance the goals of <br /> ArtsCarrboro 2020. <br /> The first phase of Our Town work in Carrboro will involve research and development of both the <br /> initial draft of ArtsCarrboro 2020 and design for the Carrboro Cultural District.
