4 <br /> Communitv Wall <br /> Through our community outreach program, the Community Wall Gallery showcases a <br /> diversity of artists and community non-profit health and educational oriented programs. We host <br /> exhibits with seniors from the Chapel Hill Senior Center;children from McDougle Middle <br /> School and the Kidzu museum;and the Stories Through Murals Project, Dominican painters <br /> using art to build bridges between nations. In conjunction with the FRANK: inFocus festival, we <br /> hosted multimedia experimental video and sound installations from the UNC MFA graduate <br /> students and plan an exhibition with Elon Academy pre-college high minority students. <br /> Spgcial Events and Workshops <br /> With membership and grant support, FRANK offers art critique, workshops,and guest <br /> presentations on topics ranging from health and wellness to special learning styles and new <br /> technological developments in communication and science. <br /> For young children,families, and seniors: <br /> Member artists work with Kidzu,a Chapel Hill interactive children's museum, to bring <br /> programs to youngsters up to age 8 at both Kidzu and FRANK locations. In conjunction with the <br /> FRANK:inFocus festival,member artist and educator Barbara Tyroler taught a parent education <br /> workshop at Kidzu Museum on How to photograph your Child,emphasizing meaning and <br /> memory associated with family photographs. We have sponsored activities with Carolina <br /> Meadows, Carol Woods,and various retirement and creative aging centers in the Triangle. We <br /> plan to host a series of workshops with Duke's Osher Lifelong Learning Institute,a continuing <br /> education program, bringing seniors to the gallery to meet our artists. <br /> For teens: <br /> The Sacrificial Poets,an outstanding local youth group created a physical representation <br /> of their poetic works on our Community Wall in collaboration with FRANK fiber artist, Peg <br /> Gignoux. They have returned twice to perform their poetry. In collaboration with FRANK <br /> photographer artist,Barbara Tyroler,at-risk high achieving teens from a pre-college community <br /> programs, the Elon Academy, took a field trip to meet the gallery director and artists and to have <br /> their photography critiqued by FRANK members. They will return in spring 2013 for an <br /> exhibition and tour. <br /> For health care patients: <br /> The Community Art Wall at FRANK has hosted work from patients at the psychiatric, <br /> oncology and hematology units of UNC Health Care System as well as those in the pediatric <br /> ward at the Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center. We have project proposals underway to <br /> include Wrap Your Head Around It coordinated by fiber artist,Peg Gignoux in partnership with <br /> the Cornucopia Cancer Support Center to create hand-dyed scarves that feature original poetry <br /> exploring the Heroic Journey of cancer patients, survivors and their caregivers. During the past <br /> year we have presented Brushes with Life,a community health organizations to show works <br /> created by artists with mental illness. We plan to partner with the iCancer program,an expressive <br /> therapy through photography project for teens,at the UNC Hospitals. During the <br /> FRANK:inFocus festival we hosted a graduate student from UNC School of Public Health to <br /> describe her experiences in Malawi photographing and documenting mothers and daughters in a <br /> fistula clinic. <br />
