<br /> Over the course of its thirty-eight year history, The ArtsCenter in Carrboro, NC has grown from a single
<br /> painting class into a vibrant and dynamic multi-purpose, multi-disciplinary, grass roots community arts center
<br /> serving more than 60,000 citizens of all ages and walks of life. Constituents come mostly from Orange County
<br /> and four surrounding counties in North Carolina, although audience members travel from throughout North
<br /> Carolina and even from other states to attend specific music and theater performances presented during the
<br /> year in the 355 seat Earl and Rhoda Wynn Theater.Attendees at music and theatre come from Chapel Hill &
<br /> Carrboro (39%) and Durham & Raleigh (32%).
<br /> The ArtsCenter is a non-profit, tax-exempt organization under section 501(c)3. It is governed by a board of
<br /> directors which establishes policy, ensures that there are adequate financial resources for the organization to
<br /> accomplish its mission, ensures that earmarked funds are managed according to the stipulation of funders,
<br /> manages the organization's assets to protect its future and ensures that financial controls are in place.

<br /> Current Programs and Services
<br /> The ArtsCenter is organized into five programmatic departments.
<br /> ArtSchool.ArtSchool at The ArtsCenter is Orange County's most comprehensive non-profit resource for
<br /> continuing education in the arts on a non-degree, community basis. The ArtSchool now offers more than 500
<br /> classes in all artistic disciplines for all experience levels and ages, awards more than 50 scholarships annually,
<br /> and offers work-study opportunities.
<br /> Youth Programs. The ArtsCenter has provided artistically excellent, age-appropriate and accessible arts
<br /> experiences to Triangle families for over 20 years. Currently, The ArtsCenter offers the 80-event School Show
<br /> Series, the SuperFun Series,ArtsCamp,AfterSchool Arts Immersion, and Arts in Education to area youth and families,
<br /> reaching approximately 26,000 children in up to six counties. Youth Arts Classes (YAC)—which includes fine art
<br /> classes for youth and workshops and camps year round in acting, musical theatre dance, chorus, stage combat,
<br /> radio drama, acting for the camera, improvisation and more.
<br /> Theatre. International theatre at its most local, ArtsCenter Stage showcases the work of emerging and
<br /> established artists hailing from next door to around the world. ArtsCenter Stage features new works with an
<br /> historical perspective, while its second-stage series includes improvisation and storytelling, musicals and
<br /> operas, stand-up comedy and film screenings, new works in development and theatre for younger and older
<br /> audiences. ArtsCenter Stage is community-oriented theatre with a commitment to developing new artists and
<br /> audiences.
<br /> Concerts. The ArtsCenter presents some 40 concerts for adults each year, representing the spectrum of
<br /> musical genres by local, emerging, and nationally touring artists including folk, blues, Celtic, rock, singer-
<br /> songwriter, Louisiana French, old-time, and bluegrass.
<br /> Gallery. The Center Gallery features the work of local and regional artists on a rotating basis. The Gallery
<br /> exhibitions highlight the work of more than 100 local and regional artists in 12 exhibitions a year.
<br /> Proposed Uses of Grant Funds
<br /> When Ballet Folklorico Mexico (full name Ballet Folklorico Mexico de los Hermanos Avila)takes the stage, the
<br /> different regional traditions of Mexico come to life. Through colorful costumes,vibrant music, and captivating
<br /> dances, this artistic company shares the diverse traditions, folklore, and customs of Mexico with its audiences.
<br /> Founded in 1972, Ballet Folklorico Mexico has performed for thousands of students over the past four decades
