The ArtsCenter: Ballet Folklorico Mexico School Shows—Curriculum Connections 2 <br /> Arts Education Essential Standards <br /> The Ballet Folklorico Mexico performance takes students on a journey to different regions of Mexico <br /> and demonstrates the various customs of each area. Showcasing the different music, instruments, and <br /> dance from these regions, this performance will enhance students' learning of the specific artistic <br /> expressions and will connect with Arts Education Essential Standards. <br /> Arts Education Essential Standard/Skill: develop and present basic analyses of works of art <br /> from structural, historical, and cultural perspectives. This includes the ability to understand and <br /> evaluate work in the various arts disciplines. <br /> Arts Education Essential Standard/Skill: recognize and appreciate exemplary works of art <br /> from a variety of cultures and historical periods and have a basic understanding of historical <br /> development in the arts disciplines, across the arts as a whole, and within cultures. <br /> Arts Education Essential Standard/Skill: relate various arts concepts, skills, and processes <br /> within and across disciplines, which includes understanding the arts in relation to other subject <br /> areas and making connections in a variety of settings, in and outside of school. <br /> Social Studies Essential Standards <br /> As the Ballet Folklorico Mexico performance explores the different regions of Mexico, students will not <br /> only learn about the various artistic expressions that are part of each region's customs and folklore, but <br /> they will also increase their learning of the geography of Mexico and its history, connecting with various <br /> aspects and strands of the new Social Studies Essential Standards. Here is a list of some of the standards <br /> with which the Ballet Folklorico performance would connect: <br /> Social Studies Essential Standard/Skill (K-2): Understand change over time. <br /> Social Studies Essential Standard/Skill (K-2): Use geographic representations and terms to <br /> describe surroundings. <br /> Social Studies Essential Standard/Skill (K-2): Understand the interaction between humans <br /> and the environment. <br /> Social Studies Essential Standard/Skill (K-2): Understand how individuals are similar and <br /> different. <br /> Social Studies Essential Standard/Skill (I st): Understand the diversity of people in the local <br /> community. <br /> Social Studies Essential Standard/Skill (2nd): Understand how various cultures influence <br /> communities. <br /> Social Studies Essential Standard/Skill (4th): Understand the impact of various cultural <br /> groups on North Carolina. <br /> Social Studies Essential Standard/Skill (5th): Students expand their knowledge of human <br /> systems as they understand push/ pull factors of migration and immigration and their influence <br /> on culture in the United States. <br /> Social Studies Essential Standard/Skill (5th): Understand how increased diversity resulted <br /> from migration, settlement patterns and economic development in the United States. <br /> Social Studies Essential Standard/Skill (6th-7th): Understand how geography, demographic <br /> trends, and environmental conditions shape modern societies and regions. <br />
