Orange County Schools <br />Orange County Schools <br />2007-08 <br />Budget Presentation <br />June 5, 2007 <br />Shirley Carraway, Ed.D. <br />Superintendent <br />Budget Overview <br />Superintendent Carraway expressed deep gratitude for the support of Orange County for <br />the schools. The fact that almost 50% of the general fund budget goes to schools is a <br />testament of the support. However, there is much more that must be done if the <br />community is to remain vital and be able to continue to boast of its commitment to <br />education. A good education is simply not good enough. For each child, we only get <br />one chance to get it right. <br />In its current form, the proposed 2007-2008 budget requests an increase of 17.99% over <br />the 2006-2007 Operating Budget. <br />Budget Drivers <br />Salary and Benefit Issues (estimates; actual changes will be determined by the <br />General Assembly) <br />Salary increases (average increases; 5°~ certified staff, principals, assistant <br />actual raises could be higher or lower principals <br />based on gradelstep 2% non-certified staff and central office <br /> administrators <br />Employer matching retirement rate 1 % increase <br />increases 7.14% to 8.14°~ rate <br />Employer matching insurance rate 14°~ increase <br />increases from $3,854 to $4,394 <br />Growth <br />New school start up Gravelly Hill <br />Increasing student support AVID, ESL, PAAS counselor, reading <br /> teachers, English/LA coordinator, Pyramid <br /> of Intervention, Benchmark Assessment <br /> software, instructional supplies <br />Increasing student opportunities High school elective teachers, PAAS core <br /> teachers, biotechnology teachers, distance <br /> learning upfit <br />Increasing facility support Maintenance workers, technology <br /> technicians, custodial services <br />Transportation issues Bus driver salary schedule, CDL <br /> reimbursement, staff development <br />Additional support Print shop technician, grant writer <br />
