Article 6: Development Standards 1 01 <br /> Section 6.9: Parking, Loading&Circulation <br /> (a) The site must be a self-contained deV61opment capable of <br /> . I <br /> accommodating#4 its 114 own parking needs, except if shared parking is <br /> provided, as per(h) below'15. <br /> (b) It is preferable to place off-street parking to the side or rear of structures <br /> and away from streets and highways. <br /> (c) If the parking area accommodates a significant number of vehicles, it <br /> must be divided into a series of connected smaller lots not to exceed 75 <br /> cars separated by major landscape buffers. <br /> (d) Parking lots adjacent to and visible from streets must be adequately <br /> screened from view through the use of rolling earth berms, low screen <br /> walls,changes in elevations, landscaping or combinations thereof. <br /> (e) For a lot facing two streets(corner lot), do not locate parking at the <br /> comer facing the intersection. <br /> Visitor drop-off zones and parking must be provided near visitor <br /> entrances, and all-day parking must be separated from visitor and front <br /> entrance traffic. <br /> (g) Parking areas must be separated from structures by either a raised <br /> concrete walkway or landscaped strip,preferable preferably...both. <br /> (h) Where hours are compatible, shared parking is encouraged. <br /> (2) Entrances and Exits <br /> (a) Intra-site accessibility shall be provided 117, Vehicles must not be <br /> required to enter the street in order to move from one area to another on <br /> the same site. 4V <br /> (b) Entrances and exits must be restricted to side streets rather than <br /> providing direct access to arterial and collector roads. <br /> (c) Access points shall be located as far as possible from street <br /> intersections so that adequate stacking room is provided. <br /> (d) All access points shall be clearly marked with appropriate directional <br /> signage. <br /> (e) On public roads,access points are subject to review and approval by the <br /> NC Department of Transportation. <br /> Entrance and exit points shall be limited to one per street frontage. More <br /> than one access point may be permitted if justified by site configuration, <br /> trip generation, and traffic conditions, including the need for separate <br /> service and visitor/employee vehicular access, and/or one-way traffic <br /> movement. <br /> (3) Pedestrian/Vehicular Conflicts <br /> (a) Separate vehicular and pedestrian circulation systems shall be pro'v,ided. <br /> (b) Pedestrian linkages between uses in office, service, and retail areas <br /> shall be emphasized, including distinct pedestrian access between <br /> adjacent sites with sidewalks and crosswalks,and appropriate fighting <br /> and landscaping. <br /> 114 Correct typographical error. <br /> 115 Staff is suggesting the additional language in order to ensure there is not a potential conflict between the <br /> requirement of(a)and the possibility of(h). <br /> 116 Correct typographical error. <br /> 117 Staff is suggesting the additional language in order to provide more clarity to the requirement. <br /> Orange County,North Carolina—Unified Development Ordinance Page 6-74 <br />
