Article 6: Development Standards <br />Section 6.11: Outdoor Lighting <br />the outdoor lighting standards contained herein upon the earlier occurrence of the <br />replacement of the fixture or the lamp. <br />(L) Temporary lighting for occasional or special events such as outdoor sporting contests, <br />concerns, theater events, festivals, carnivals, social gatherings, ce- ebiratiioins-, special <br />promotions, or similar occasional events permitted in accordance with the provisions of <br />this Ordinance. <br />6.11.4 Prohibitions <br />The following activities and /or use of lighting are specifically prohibited: <br />(A) :_- � 'K4 _ &X4; <br />stagy lHatk)n u.aise i (fir <br />rein,IIacMenneint of a TnercMu.aiiry and/or , ode u.ainn vainor IluaIhtiina fixture,,��wW <br />(B) The use of laser source light or any similar high intensity light for <br />outdoor advertising or entertainment, wli ry� °�Ikcvr tl -IkcA, <br />(C) The operation of searchlights for advertising purposes or to draw attention to an event or <br />activity is specifically prohibited. This shall not include the use of searchlights in <br />temporary emergency situations, <br />(D) Electrical illumination of off - premise commercial signs, <br />(E) Lights that are flashing, pulsing, moving, rotating, flickering, or that change in intensity or <br />color, with the exception of emergency lighting, and <br />(F) Fixtures that are designed to resemble traffic control or other similar public safety devices <br />1atl a� -used for advertising or other similar purposes. <br />6.11.5 Lighting Plan <br />(A) Purpose and Intent <br />The overall scope and purpose of the lighting plan is to allow staff to work with the <br />property owner to prevent excessive and unnecessary lighting on the property prior to <br />installation of the proposed fixtures avoiding potential costly compliance remedies upon <br />completion of the project. <br />(B) Submittal Requirements <br />(1) With the exception of single - family and duplex residential plot plan submittals, a <br />lighting plan shall be submitted with site plan, MPD -CZ Master Plan or <br />preliminary plat approval documents when outdoor lighting fixtures are proposed. <br />Any development project proposing outdoor lighting shall not be permitted until <br />the proposed lighting plan is approved in accordance with the provisions of this <br />Ordinance. <br />(2) Lighting Plans shall comply with the following standards: <br />(a) Lighting plans shall be completed and sealed by a professional engineer <br />and shall contain all required information as detailed herein, <br />(b) Plans, drawn to a maximum scale of one inch equaling 40 feet, shall <br />show the exact location, type, and height of all outdoor luminaries, <br />existing and proposed, including building, pole and ground fixtures; <br />10 Incorporating comments made at the September 5, 2012 ORC meeting. <br />Orange County, North Carolina — Unified Development Ordinance Page 6 -69 <br />
