I don't believe in
recent memory has the Commission operated at full membership capacity. At this time,
due to term limits and resignations, there are 12 active members- one-half the
designated number.
At our September 12, 2012 monthly meeting we discussed the optimal desired number
of Commission members. Of course, integral to that conversation was expressed
interest in diversity and geographical representation among the HRC. In addition, given
our current Building Integrated Communities Initiative we may want to add members
from the immigrant population to the Commission with your approval. And,we also
continue to include women's issues on our agenda and thus continue to try to recruit
interested women for the Commission. Thus, the Commission unanimously agreed that
18 instead of 24 would be the optimal size for its membership.
Thank you for the opportunity to discuss this question and make a recommendation.
Should you need additional information please feel free to contact me at
colinaus(cgmaiLcom. Thank you for the opportunity to serve.
