<br />1 <br />ORANGE COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br />Meeting Date:November 8, 2012 <br />Action Agenda <br />Item No.7-b <br />SUBJECT: Strategic Information Technology Plan <br />DEPARTMENT:Information TechnologiesPUBLIC HEARING: (Y/N)No <br />ATTACHMENT(S):INFORMATION CONTACT: <br />Draft Strategic Information Technology Clarence Grier, (919) 245-2450 <br />Planfor Orange CountyJim Northup, (919) 245-2276 <br />Strategic Information Technology Plan <br />Work Completed to Date and Planned <br />for FY 2012-2013 <br />PURPOSE: <br />To review, discuss and provide input on the latest draft of the Strategic Information <br />Technology Plan and to consider approval based on the Board discussion. <br />BACKGROUND: <br />In 2011, the Board of Commissioners requested that the County’s Chief <br />Information Officerdevelop a Strategic Information Technology Plan in coordination with the <br />UNCSchool of Government’s Center for Public Technology. The Strategic Information <br />Technology Plan is being developed to provide high-level strategic goals that align with BOCC <br />priorities and overall County goals. <br />Staff from the Center for Public Technology hasworked with Information Technologies (IT), <br />County departments, County management and the individual members of the Board of County <br />Commissioners to developa draft version of the plan. This draft has been reviewed and further <br />modified based on staff input. The plan waspresented to the Board for itsreviewat the <br />September 11, 2012 work session,and comments and input were provided for further <br />refinement. Based on thefeedback provided duringthe September 11 work session, andthe <br />presentation and discussionduring this meeting, the Center for Public Technology and <br />Information Technologies can updatethe document, if needed,with the goal of having the <br />BOCC adopt the documentat this meeting. The document will serveas a guiding instrument in <br />Capital Investment Plan (CIP) development for technology in the coming years. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: <br />The Center for Public Technologies’ consulting services for the Strategic <br />Information Technology Plan were $10,000. There is no cost to adopting the Strategic <br />Information Technology Plan.Recommended staffing levels will see on-going analysis with <br />implementation of staffing increases to occur based upon demand, priorities, and Board <br />approved budgetary actions. <br />RECOMMENDATION(S): <br />The Manager recommends that the Board review, discuss and <br />provide input and, based on that discussion, adoptthe Strategic Information Technology Plan. <br /> <br />
