Gordon, Barry Jacobs, and Earl McKee <br /> 15 COUNTY COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: Steve Yuhasz <br /> 16 COUNTY ATTORNEYS PRESENT: John Roberts <br /> 17 COUNTY STAFF PRESENT: County Manager Frank Clifton, Assistant County Managers <br /> 18 Clarence Grier and Michael Talbert, and Clerk to the Board Donna S. Baker (All other staff <br /> 19 members will be identified appropriately below) <br /> 20 ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION MEMBERS PRESENT: Chair ponna Coffey <br /> 21 and Board Members Lawrence Sanders, Steve Halkiotis, Anne Medenblik, Debbie Piscitelli, and <br /> 22 Tony McKnight. Superintendent Patrick Rhodes was also present. <br /> 23 ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION MEMBERS ABSENT: Brenda Stephens <br /> 24 CHAPEL HILL-CARRBORO CITY SCHOOL BOARD OF EDUCATION MEMBERS <br /> 25 PRESENT: Chair Mia Burroughs and Board Members James Barrett, Jamezetta Bedford, Mike <br /> 26 Kelly, Gregory McElveen, and Annetta Streater. Superintendent Tom Forcella was also <br /> 27 present. <br /> 28 CHAPEL HILL-CARRBORO CITY SCHOOL BOARD OF EDUCATION MEMBERS ABSENT: <br /> 29 Michelle Brownstein <br /> 30 <br /> 31 <br /> 32 Welcome and Openinq Remarks Chair Pelissier, Chair Coffev and Chair <br /> 33 Burrouqhs) <br /> 34 <br /> 35 Chair Pelissier said that these items were discussed at the school collaboration meeting <br /> 36 and brought forth for the full boards to discuss. <br /> 37 Chair Burroughs and Chair Coffey did not have any remarks. <br /> 38 Chair Pelissier said that Commissioner Yuhasz would be unable to attend tonight. <br /> 39 <br /> 40 1. Pre-K and School Enrollment—Oranqe County Schools <br /> 41 Superintendent Rhodes made a PowerPoint presentation. <br /> 42 <br /> 43 The financial support of the Board of County Commissioners has been, and continues to <br /> 44 be, critical to the success of Orange County Schools. <br /> 45 Milestones <br /> 46 ✓ Student achievement and proficiency continue to rise <br /> 47 ✓ Achievement Gap continues to close <br /> 48 ✓ Graduation Rate over 85% <br /> 49 ✓ Lowest Dropout Rate on record —2.37% <br /> 50 ✓ S.A.T. and A.C.T. scores exceed state and national averages <br />
