He asked how that would be
funded.
Clarence Grier said that it will be a separate fund to maintain and account for these
vehicles.
Frank Clifton said that all of the department in the general fund will be charged a
vehicle fee, and these can be tracked separately to see if they are being maintained efficiently.
They are isolating these vehicles since now they are in various departments. It is hard to
maintain and track in the present system.
Commissioner McKee asked about the reduction of the Sheriff's vehicles from 12 to 6.
He wants to make sure these are not cut. His concern is a possible movement toward a
service district tax to fund vehicles.
Public Comment:
Jamezetta Bedford, board member of the CHCCS Board of Education, read a letter that
the CHCCS Board sent to the County in April, which basically asked the County to raise the
district tax if needed to fund their request.
Frank Clifton said that most of what the County is able to do this year is to refund
existing debt to gain some short-term savings.
Commissioner Jacobs thanked staff for the budget and creativity. He has confidence
that, within the existing budget, without raising taxes, that the County Commissioners can find
enough money to give another cent to both school systems.
c.
