The County only has Section 8 housing. <br /> Commissioner Gordon asked several questions, which were satisfactorily answered by <br />Tara Fikes. She asked if members of the Affordable Housing task force had seen this proposal and <br />Commissioner Brown said that Tara Fikes did make a presentation to the Affordable Housing Task <br />Force on Section 8 Housing. <br /> A motion was made by Commissioner Jacobs, seconded by Commissioner Brown to <br />approve the submission of the five-year public housing plan and annual plan for the Orange County <br />Housing Authority. This includes the changes on page 17 (at the bottom) to check "Yes" for items 'c' <br />and 'd' regarding the request for criminal records from the State and the FBI for screening purposes. <br />VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br /> <br /> n. Cities/Counties for Climate Protection Program <br /> The Board considered authorizing staff to explore the potential for joining the Cities for <br />Climate Protection (CPP) Program. <br /> Commissioner Gordon asked what role the Commission for the Environment would play <br />on this program. <br /> Environment and Resource Conservation Director David Stancil said that the Commission <br />for the Environment was informed about this program and has been supportive of the idea. <br /> A motion was made by Commissioner Gordon, seconded by Commissioner Jacobs to <br />authorize staff to explore the potential for joining the Cities for Climate Protection (CPP) Program. <br />VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br /> <br /> q. Month-to-month Lease Extension - ArtsCenter <br /> The Board considered extending a lease at the ArtsCenter in Carrboro on a month-to- <br />month basis pending the relocation of the Senior Citizens Program to the new Carrboro Century <br />Center. <br /> Commissioner Brown asked how much the monthly rent would be at the Century Center <br />and Pam Jones said that the County plans to negotiate with the Town of Carrboro on the amount. <br /> A motion was made by Commissioner Brown, seconded by Commissioner Jacobs to <br />extend a lease at the ArtsCener in Carrboro on a month-to-month basis pending the relocation of the <br />Senior Citizens Program to the new Carrboro Century Center. <br />VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br /> <br /> r. Bid Award – Video Arraignment System for Orange County Jail and Courthouse <br /> The Board considered awarding a bid to Selectrocom Corp. of Greensboro in the amount <br />of $29,990 for a video arraignment system. <br /> Commissioner Brown asked a clarifying question, which was answered satisfactorily by <br />Pam Jones. <br /> A motion was made by Commissioner Jacobs, seconded by Chair Halkiotis to award a bid <br />to Selectrocom Corp. of Greensboro in the amount of $29,990 for a video arraignment system and to <br />authorize the Purchasing Director to execute the necessary paperwork. <br />VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br /> <br /> t. Petition for Abandonment of Staffield Land and Whitmore Circle to the State <br />Maintenance Program <br /> The Board considered a petition to add Sheffield Lane and Whitmore Circle in Highland <br />Meadows subdivision in Chapel Hill Township, to the state-maintained secondary road system. <br /> Commissioner Jacobs commented that if as counties we want to move toward a system <br />where we have more control over maintenance and other issues dealing with the transportation <br />system with increasingly limited resources, then there should be a set of criteria developed by the <br />County for adding roads to the state maintenance program. <br /> <br /> <br />
