Consideration of Charter School Students <br /> In North Carolina, charter schools are a relatively new concept, and there have been <br /> a few instances across the state where these schools have closed. While regular <br /> membership counts do not consider these children, it is important to recognize the <br /> fact that there is a potential for charter students to return to the public school <br /> systems. The Task Force recommends that as School and County staffs annually <br /> update current and projected student membership, they also update the number of <br /> charter students that each system has. <br /> The Task Force feels that all projections should be reviewed annually during the <br /> County's ten-year capital planning process. Use of a compilation of the methodologies <br /> outlined above should provide more accurate projections than have been available in <br /> the past. <br /> 31 <br />
